Direct Golf Complete 72,000th Golf MOT

By: Golf Shake | Wed 04 Jun 2014

direct golf A golfer from Huddersfield was presented with an Adams hybrid club after becoming the 72,000th customer to undertake a free ‘golf MOT' with Direct Golf UK, Europe's award winning and leading multi-channel specialist golf retailer.

Nick Booth, 42, booked the consultation at Direct Golf's Huddersfield Stadium store and was shocked to learn, upon completion, that he had become the 72,000th customer to benefit from the service.

The MOT's complete evaluation takes 60 minutes and includes assessment on a golf monitor - and an appraisal of what is right and wrong - a putting session, club polishing, and free golf tips from Direct Golf advisors. The service is free and has proved incredibly popular since it launched four years ago, as marketing manager Simon Corp explained.

He said: "The ‘golf MOT' provides a free opportunity for customers to come in, spend an hour with our advisors and check whether their clubs are, effectively, helping or hindering their game. Many of the people we've had through the system have been shocked to discover that the clubs they're playing with are not ideal for their size or swing, as they've not been custom-fitted.

"Our advisors can offer a solution, and, although the customer is under no obligation to have his clubs fitted with us, many make an appointment to do so there and then, because the data we can provide will show them clearly where their game can be improved.

"And this is why the tagline for the ‘golf MOT' is ‘lower your score without changing your swing'. Slight adjustments to the equipment used can make so much difference - even a simple polish can make a difference.

"With the par on the majority of courses set at 72, we set ourselves a ‘par' of 72,000 golfers to be ‘MOT tested' within five years, and we have achieved it with around 12 months to spare. Our next target will be six figures!"

Booth, an 18-handicapper who plays his golf at Huddersfield GC, said: "I was shocked to be told I was the 72,000th customer to take part in the ‘golf MOT' offer and I was delighted to be presented with an Adams hybrid by Direct Golf, who checked and found that was the ideal club to add to my current bag."

Yorkshire-based Direct Golf UK has 20 branches nationwide and was named ‘best mail order company' for eight successive years in the Today's Golfer reader awards. The company, founded by John Andrew, a Class AA, PGA professional, in 1991, has enjoyed massive growth in 23 successful years of trading.

It started with one small shop in Huddersfield, but its philosophy of cutting manufacturers' recommended retail prices proved to be very popular with the golfing public and it quickly gained the reputation for the best prices in the UK. Backed up with fast delivery and world-class customer service, Direct Golf UK grew quickly into one of the largest specialist golf retailers in the UK and Europe.
