Scottish Golf Course to Host Special Day For Key Workers

By: Golfshake Editor | Wed 12 May 2021

Whether it be those in the NHS, supermarkets or education system, we're all indebted to the key workers who have tirelessly helped the country function throughout the coronavirus pandemic, making our lives easier during a uniquely challenging time.

And one golf course in the Scottish Highlands is doing its bit to thank those who have been on the frontlines during the past year.

Located 30 minutes or so from Inverness, Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club is running a special day for key workers, opening its fairways and facilities to say thank you.

Reported by Will Clark in the Ross-shire Journal, free rounds of golf will be offered to key workers, with prizes (donated by members) available for the best drives and nearest the pin, adding some competitive fun to the occasion, while food and beverages will be on offer from the clubhouse.

Club captain Reg Holder said: "We are delighted to give recognition to all those who have kept us going throughout the pandemic.

“We have been so fortunate to have had so many continuing the essential work that was required to see us though this difficult time.

“To offer this day to them is one way in which we can show our appreciation.

“We hope that they will enjoy their round and feel that they are and have been valued."

The club is keen to see many key workers come forward and participate this Sunday, 16 May. Anyone who wishes to take part in the free event and is a key worker is asked to email: [email protected].

Highly Recommended on Golfshake, Strathpeffer was originally designed by Willie Park Jr before Old Tom Morris extended the course to 18 holes. The late Peter Alliss described it as a "hidden Gem in the Highlands" and we wouldn't disagree with that.

And this Sunday many key workers will deservedly experience it for themselves.
