Worth a try.

Decent front 8, back 10 not so good
It was a warm day in August, the front 8 holes were in good condition although playing quite slow, from hole 9 onwards most of the holes were playing very slow which made the course feel very inconsistent. Many bunkers were still waterlogged, greens were also not in great condition. Pace of play was very slow, frustratingly so, which seemed to be down to the quality of the players (i.e., not very good and unwilling to pick up or play from correct tees etc). The course design has some interesting holes in the front 8, but let down by almost every hole has a right fairway bunker at 200-230 yards, requiring little tee strategy other than "hit with your driver and try and miss the bunker on the right". Green design also seemed very inconsistent, although there were some good variety in green shapes, there was no consistent "feel" to the green speed or slopes, which wasn't helped by the poor condition the greens were in. Tee boxes were also in bad condition, the Par 3 15th was covered in a layer of sand, making it feel like you were playing out of a bunker! Fairways again were inconsistent, a number of hilly lies means you have to be cautious of getting good contact with the ball. Some fairways had decent speed, others were treacle slow with very little roll, again making it a frustrating experience when hitting what felt like a good shot to only find out it travelled 2 clubs less than expected!
There were a couple of interesting holes, the ridiculous 90 degree dogleg 16th followed by the fun green placement of the par 4 17th. The final hole, a near 600 yard par 5 kind of sums up Silverknowes - it's long and straight (and slightly uphill) with bunkers to the right to punish any wayward slices/fades, sloping lies on the fairway and a sloping green, once completed it feels like a real grind just to make par and is unfortunately a bit forgettable.
If I played again, I would just stick to the front 8 holes unless it's been a really dry couple of weeks beforehand.

Greens in great condition and would play again.

Good course with stunning views.
Silverknowes is close to the centre of Edinburgh and several holes overlook the Firth of Forth. Part of Edinburgh Leisure's Council managed group of golf facilities, the course offers an excellent challenge whilst being reasonably friendly to high handicappers.Facilities are basic but the course is well maintained and certainly worth a visit.
