What The Club Says

The Woolston Manor course was designed using the natural features of the land, in particular the river Roding which meanders throughout the course. Neil Coles MBE and David Williams designed the 18 hole championship course which was opened in the spring of 1994. The course measures 6510 yards from the white tees with a par of 72. The legendary Gary Player described it as one of the best young courses that he had ever played - praise indeed!

Interesting

Good course in good condition seeing the dry weather of late. Interesting layout with lots of water & plenty of bunkers to navigate. Tee boxes could do with a little work, some a bit uneven but this only a small gripe. All staff & members very friendly, didn't have any food just drinks, but what food I saw looked good. This was my first visit here but won't be my last

I play of 6 and must say Woolston manor has improved dramatically over the last 5/7 years when I was a member here , greens where rolling great and true and fairways were lovely …. Will definitely be back as it’s a course you have to definitely know how to plot your way around , great food as always , great staff and even got a Carwash while I was playing ????????

Flooded bunkers

Woolston Manor Golf Club is in the Roding Valley with several holes crossing the river. It is also well known for having a lot of bunkers. Unfortunately we played the day after a day of heavy rain and nearly all the bunkers were flooded. The only bunker in good condition was the one by the 18th green adjacent to the clubhouse. The course is quite tight in addition to a lot of water hazards, so doesn't really suit players who are not accurate with their drives / approach shots. It is very challenging and in normal summer conditions would be much more playable.

This course is nice and harder than Theydon Bois in Essex.

Given the recent dry weather the course played reasonable but the fairways were rock hard and the bunkers still need a lot of work to make them consistent and playable as some still had a lot of stones in them.

Really Great

Woolaston Manor is a great course with an excellent bar and food area.
The course is challenging with many strategic bunkers, trees and the occasional water hazard.
The only downside is that the bunkers need attention. More dirt than sand which made playing them even more difficult.

I was a member here years ago so thought we’d go back. Unfortunately it’s a Tip. Mid November, hardly any rain and the fairways are a bog! Greens were solid yet ridiculously slow? The bunkers were wet yet we’ve had no rain. For £32 you can play toot hill which is miles apart from this. I wouldn’t pay £10. Never again.

Sand bunkers full of water, fairways need cutting, little or no maintenance. Not worth the ?32.

Sort the bunkers

The bunkers had no sand in them or were churned up as if under construction, but no signs saying any were GUR, and the Pro shop made no mention of the state of the bunkers when booking. Them charging standard price when all the bunkers are unplayable is a bit ridiculous - it's the height of summer; if the course is undergoing major works, this should be made clear and a discount on the green fee given.

Course in reasonable condition, good challenge to think your way around it. All bunkers GUR, all sand removed to allow drainage works. Clubhouse in need of a lot of TLC, not a great advert for the place. Bit overpriced for the condition of facilities.
