What the club says: The Woolston Manor course was designed using the natural features of the land, in particular the river Roding which meanders throughout the course. Neil Coles MBE and David Williams designed the 18 hole championship course which was opened in the spring of 1994. The course measures 6510 yards from the white tees with a par of 72. The legendary Gary Player described it as one of the best young courses that he had ever played - praise indeed!

Really Great
Woolaston Manor is a great course with an excellent bar and food area. The course is challenging with many strategic bunkers, trees and the occasional water hazard.
The only downside is that the bunkers need attention. More dirt than sand which made playing them even more difficult.

Sort the bunkers
The bunkers had no sand in them or were churned up as if under construction, but no signs saying any were GUR, and the Pro shop made no mention of the state of the bunkers when booking. Them charging standard price when all the bunkers are unplayable is a bit ridiculous - it's the height of summer; if the course is undergoing major works, this should be made clear and a discount on the green fee given.Reviewer Rating

A good challenge
We like to play Woolston Manor every now and then because it definitely presents a greater challenge than other courses in the area. It's a good layout where birdie chances are few and far between. However, although I know we have had a lot of rain, it was disappointing to find that every bunker was a pond! Otherwise the course was in pretty good condition.Reviewer Rating

Never again, so very slow
Attempted to play Woolston Manor this morning. We had booked a 10:15 tee time as part of the breakfast deal. Turned up and the car park was packed, I should have know then what I was in for. The full English breakfast was good and the service in the equally good. We went to the first tee in plenty of time only to find out that a competition had gone out before us. We finally teed off at 10:45. The pace of play was so slow, it took an hour to play the first three holes. There was no marshal on the course to ensure pace of play was kept up, making it ridiculous trying to play. I waled off after 5 holes and my playing partners lasted another two holes and then walked off. The club had squeezed too many tee times in, with this being the case there should have been a starter and an on course marshal. I will never play this course again at the weekend, there are plenty more locally that are far better.Reviewer Rating

Worth a visit
Nice challenging course. Despite wet conditions greens very good, some water laying in some numbers, and sand very compact due to recent heavy rain. Some fairways very wet and soggy, boggy in places. But still a nice club to visit, staff excellent.Reviewer Rating

Avoid after rain
When playing this past weekend at Woolston Manor, we found that the fairways were waterlogged and almost unplayable. Bunkers were GUR and all full of water, and tee boxes were in poor condition.Although the greens were well maintained and quick.

First, and last time
Not much right about this course, sloppy mud almost everywhere, the course should not have been open, let along changing £40 for the round, even though they had a starter and he was driving round the course, the pace was ridiculously slow................wont be going backReviewer Rating

As a pay and play (beginners) course it is a hidden gem! The greens are the best I've played for a long time, the fairways were also well presented. Receptionist was cheerful and helpful. Would definitely recommend, especially anyone new to golfReviewer Rating

Okay
Okay, but condition shows it's not being well-kept; there are better conditioned courses in near proximity for the same price range. Bunkers were poor - only about 2cm of sand and rock hard underneath, so expect plenty of club bouncing off the surface and thin bunker shots. Greens were patchy - dry in spots, and too long in other spots, so pace judgement was almost pointless.Reviewer Rating

Great hospitality and course
The greeting and hospitality we received was second to none & we will be returning again hopefully when it's not as wet. Apart from the wet fairways due to the heavy rain for the week before we played the greens were in fantastic condition if a little hard to get the grip off. Overall a great day from the breakfast to the 19th hole only little dampener was they had no cider on tap other than little hiccup it was a great day enjoyed by the members of the Eastons Golf soceity.Reviewer Rating

Disappointed
Played this course on Saturday morning (13th August) £35 green fee, and booked a couple of weeks in advance. When arrived we informed the pro shop there were now 8 of us not 7, and were told we wouldn’t be allowed score cards until the 8th had paid. Not a great welcome but can see where he’s coming from. Headed to the putting green, hit 2 balls and stopped as the bumpyness and unpredictable nature of it didn’t really help. Set out on the course, slow play noticed quite early, no issue with beginner golfers, but waiting for people with unrealistic expectations of waiting for the green to clear from 300 yards away on a 400 yard hole did slow it down a lot. At points there was more sand on the greens than on the bunkers. We had been told I’m the shop that there was some GUR, there was quite a lot of it. Fairways were dry but enjoyable, due to the dry weather. Greens had been Hollow Tinned (no mention of this in the shop) and as I said, the bunkers left a lot to be desired due to the lack of sand in them. Overall I don’t think I’m likely to return to Woolston Manor as feel my money would be better spent elsewhere.Reviewer Rating

Course conditions weren't great today - greens were far too scruffy, bumpy, some bunkers were waterlogged.
However, a few people I know played a society day a week later and said the greens were 10x better.

No repeat.
I first played this course when it was called Epping forest golf and country club. Now called Woolston manor,it is a tough course and that's not my reason for not going back,I didn't like the fact that six groups in our society, first two groups played second hole and then the groundskeeper come and move the flag why people are playing the hole. It's definitely gone down hill in my estimations.Reviewer Rating
