What the club says: This renowned Essex course of undulating parkland character is undoubtedly one of the finest in the county and whilst occupying only 99 acres, is nevertheless a challenging 18 holes with a par of 71 and measuring 6296 yards from the competition tees. Even from the forward tees at 5,962 yards it is a fine test of golf. Features of the course are its small greens and deceptive borrows. It is a course that one never tires of playing.

Had a recent Essex seniors match against Chigwell on 1st May course good as always. Food afterwards very nice as always. Parked my van in the car park and came in to find it had been broken into along with three other team members. On reporting this in the clubhouse we were told that they’d had a problem with this recently. A heads up would have been nice.Reviewer Rating

Lovely course much as previous reviews I read. Nice variety, fairways in good nick as were the greens & hillier than expected. The wet conditions made some holes play long but despite a poor score I enjoyed the experience & would go back. The bar seemed too brightly lit & I couldn’t see any real ales on tap so afraid we sought refreshments elsewhere.

Great Course but sooo Slow
First time playing this Course, and took advantage of a discounted tee time on a very warm, Sunday afternoon in early October. People were friendly and the greens ran really well. Only issue was that despite teeing off as the group in front were reaching the first hole, by the second tee we had caught them up. This was due to a mixed 4 ball in front of them being (it seemed) complete beginners. At the 10th they allowed the group in front to play through but not us, a two ball, even though we virtually arrived at each tee at the same time as them because they moved between holes so slowly.Completely appreciate that everyone has to learn, but a little bit of thought for those behind would have been nice. We tee'd off around 1.56pm, and it was almost dark by the time we reached the last hole. The people behind us must have had it even worse.

Always good to play here
As expected course in great condition. Some slight variations to lengths of fairways. Green really good condition, bunkers have sand, and fairways well maintained. Staff always very welcoming.Reviewer Rating

Disappointing
Expected it to be a top members club but I’d be disappointed if I was a member here paying the fees reported. Greens looked diseased. Tee boxes not level not manicured in between holes. Played here years back and greens were fast and true. If you can get a cheap guest rate worth a go otherwise not worth the green feeReviewer Rating

A cracker
This is a terrific course. The first is a real test of length and accuracy, but persevere because it's well worth it. Enjoyed but has its faults
Despite the considerable amount of work underway on the course and seemingly stifling encroachment of the garish multi-millionaire properties that encircle the course, our day at Chigwell was really enjoyable. This owed much to the layout of the course – both playable and challenging – and the welcoming nature of the people. The starter was a lovely man, the staff were friendly and the members chatty. The club seems to have made a conscious effort to be much less stuffy – certainly more relaxed than when we were last there, 8 years ago.I sincerely hope the club survives the ardent ambitions of its neighbours who seem intent on expanding their own little empires and choking this golfing oasis on the London / Essex boarder.
