What the club says: This 18 hole park land course threads its way through magnificent mature trees and provides a challenge that is mastered by few. Its unique Manor Clubhouse is surrounded by a 12th Century moat, occupied by two deceptively serene white swans.

The extended course was designed by Gaunt & Marnock and incorporates modern specification greens which provide excellent playing surfaces throughout the year.

Whilst not extremely long by modern standards the 6008 yards have stood the test of time.

Nice course, worth playing

Played Wigan GC for first time in one of their open events. Well organised, friendly welcome in clubhouse. No pro shop on site. Good practice facilities. Course in excellent condition, greens true but not too quick. A few blind holes from tee, a couple of tricky par 3s, especially the 1st hole. A bit of walking between some greens and the next tee. Food and drink also good, nice outside sitting area overlooking the "moat" that runs around the elegant clubhouse. Well worth a visit for sure

Nice course, could of done with a slight cut on the greens, only short but very tricky! Ball has to be in the right place! Lots of run offs on the fairways and greens!

Nice course

Challenging layout and tight in places. Shot selection is important. Was a little disappointed with some greens though, clearly pitch marks not been repaired which is a let down for a private course

First impressions on visiting the course, hard to know where to go as a visitor as there is no pro shop and both door are keypad locked with no one around to ask or let us in, other than that the course itself is fantastic hard to follow in places as holes kriss kross just lacking a few signs but not to take anything away from the course lovely trek with testing holes certainly play harden in the summer months.

First time i'd played here. course in very good condition. work was being done to some fairways but didn't hinder play. greens running true although perhaps a little slow on some. Overall great value and nice little course. will definitely be back.

Golf Society opening venue

Played with a Society and although not the cheapest around the course was great and considering the recent weather the greens especially were in fantastic condition.
I would definitely recommend Hesketh GC.

Very average

Played after reading good reviews online, the condition was not bad for November but 2 winter greens for no apparent reason. The other greens bobbly.
Just a very average layout with no real signature holes. The new 9 are much better than the old 9 but that isn't saying much. Overall fairly short and easy.
Worth about 15 quid on teeofftimes but no more than that sadly.

Friendly

Our golf society played this course for the first time and we will probably return again.
We had a friendly welcome.
It had been raining heavily the day before but still played on the summer greens.
There was 22 of us and we all had a great days Golf which was finished off with pie & chips & sweet all washed down with a pint or two.

Deceptively challenging

You don't get an easy introduction here with a 200 yd par three, narrow long green guarded by a bunker atop a steep slope on the lower side and a canal to the higher side, this is indicative of the course, you can't just bang it and chip on most holes, course management is key.
The clubhouse is surrounded by an 11th century moat and is frequented by welcoming members and staff who are rightly proud of this interesting club.

Good course

This course is hidden away and pretty hard to find. Its obvious it is a really nice course. Unfortunately we played it after some high winds and bad weather which made it extremely boggy underfoot. I know this is true of many parkland courses but this was more than you would usually expect. One of our group had played it before in spring and said it was superb in nice confitions, which was easy to see how it would be. Would recommend but preferably in good weather
