What the club says: The Vale Resort has two 18 hole championship courses. The Wales National is one of the longest golf courses outside of the USA - at 7,433 yards and par 73 off the championship tees. It opened in June 2003 by Great Britain Olympic gold medalist Sir Steve Redgrave and has hosted multiple Europro and Challenge Tour events. The aptly named Lake Course (par 72) is dominated by a 20-acre lake and has water coming into play on 12 of its holes.

The National
For £20 a round in November really can't complain. We were paired up with random people to make a 4 ball which was ok I guess. The course itself is fantastic. A bit soft underfoot but to be expected, made replacing divots tricky as the ground often exploded. Greens were a bit bumpy, shame on those not repairing their pitch marks. Also shame on those dropping their rubbish, beers cans and bottles mostly. A beautiful course, in a beautiful setting. Would definitely go again

Course immaculate, customer service meh
The Lakes course was in stunning condition, greens were true and blemish free, fairways nice and tidy. A little more signage on the course would be welcome to help navigate, but despite being pushed along a marshall we enjoyed the round. No halfway house (COVID) but with forecasted heatwave would have expected either a water bottle buggy around the course or cool boxes etc. around the course. Customer service in clubhouse and hotel very poor (very slow) we took over two hours to complete our 3 course meal and had to remind about food/drink orders a few times.(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 102 Handicap: 22.2)

Brilliant course
If you think playing at your local course and playing here are similar, think again, this course will tear your handicap to pieces if you give it the chance! It did mine! Great course, well looked after, greens were like nothing I have played before, fair but so difficult. Green staff were cutting fairways when we played, as we tee'd off he had moved to the side about 200yards away in behind some trees, after the first tee shot for some reason he reversed somemore!! Fantastic experience but showed I may just not make it to the top! There was some serious money spent here, the Welsh Rugby Union and Cardiff City both have training facilities here so if you're into celeb spotting you may see some although to be honest I wouldn't have a clue who they were! There was some very tidy players, oh and take a buggy its more fun!!

Another great round
Superb condition, great course. Not too crowded today and the greens were in good nick. Rough great as easy to find balls!(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 95 Handicap: 17)

Two Great Courses
Just got back from a fantastic two day break at The Vale. The Lakes is a great course, with the first 4 holes being pretty demanding. The forest course is a monster even off the yellows but what a great knock. A course guide for both courses is a good idea. The hotel is just brilliant great food and really friendly staff we will be back.

Fantastic course worth visiting
The course was fantastic with some wonderful holes. Only disappointing bit was the 18th hole. it didn't seem very special considering all the previous holes, but would not put me off returning another time

A course worth playing

A Challenge
A stunning course with great surrounding but a tough course for the average golfer

Not in best condition
First time I’ve played this course which has a great variety of holes, a few are quite long and I recommend a buggy !Although a great design we didn’t see it in its best condition with most of the fairways quite long and needing a cut (probably a by product of a wet couple of weeks after many weeks of dry weather). The greens had recently been dressed and it felt as though too much sand had been used as they were very difficult and inconsistent to put on. The tee markers and flags could also do with a little TLC - particularly the tee markers which could do with a coat of paint.
A great course, we just didn’t see it looking it’s best today
