Fantastic course worth visiting

The course was fantastic with some wonderful holes. Only disappointing bit was the 18th hole. it didn't seem very special considering all the previous holes, but would not put me off returning another time

We stayed here as a group of 12 and played both courses over the two days. The hotel rooms were cracking, dinner was plentiful and really well cooked and just what we needed after the first days golf. Even when we got held up and had to inform the lady we would be late, she was very helpful and accommodating. The courses are laid out brillantly, with a mix of super hard holes and some that make you think you are better than you are!!! The Welsh National has many more trees to make you hit a straight ball from the tee than the Lakes, but clearly the Lakes has the water to help you stay straight. However on both courses the Greens were good, but not great. We could see that some work had been done, with the deep scarring probably essential to make them perfect for the next few months, but why do both courses at the same time?? We would have expected at least one to be of such a high standard that when we got back to our own club we would be raving about it, however we could not. This is a GREAT venue, EXCELLENT value for money, the staff are SUPERB but the greens needed to be better to make us rave about it.

A very nice but very hard course would definetly play thewre again,as this was the first time that i played there.

Probably one of the best i have played including the ones i played in Portugal *****

Difficult without being impossible

Very nicely laid out, difficult without being impossible for mid to high handicappers. It was in nice condition when we played in October

Magnificent Course.

If you have never played this then get it on your bucket list. There are some truly amazing holes on this course, the 2nd, 5th, just to name 2 on the front 9. Several dogleg style holes so club choice is deffo something you have to choose carefully. You also have the option of a second course if you stay for a couple of days like we did. Get in your car and get down there pronto.

Very Enjoyable Course

We played The National and found it an excellent course. The green fee was very reasonable for such a quality well maintained layout. I would recommend a buggy as there is quite a distance from green to next tee. All aspects were good, tees, fairways and greens. Signage is OK, but we got lost looking for the 17th tee. The course Marshall is a real character, very friendly, helped make our day. The food and drinks are good here. Would recommend it wholeheartedly.

Great condition but design is unnecessarily penal - mid to high handicappers dont need to miss fairway by more than a few yards on many holes (sometimes on both sides) to be OB or lose a ball, racking up penalty shots without being all that wayward.
Approached bar afterwards and was told to sit down and wait for table service, waited 20 minutes for service, couldnt get attention of staff though there were plenty around, so gave up and went to a pub instead!

Course immaculate, customer service meh

The Lakes course was in stunning condition, greens were true and blemish free, fairways nice and tidy. A little more signage on the course would be welcome to help navigate, but despite being pushed along a marshall we enjoyed the round. No halfway house (COVID) but with forecasted heatwave would have expected either a water bottle buggy around the course or cool boxes etc. around the course. Customer service in clubhouse and hotel very poor (very slow) we took over two hours to complete our 3 course meal and had to remind about food/drink orders a few times.

Not in best condition

First time I’ve played this course which has a great variety of holes, a few are quite long and I recommend a buggy !
Although a great design we didn’t see it in its best condition with most of the fairways quite long and needing a cut (probably a by product of a wet couple of weeks after many weeks of dry weather). The greens had recently been dressed and it felt as though too much sand had been used as they were very difficult and inconsistent to put on. The tee markers and flags could also do with a little TLC - particularly the tee markers which could do with a coat of paint.
A great course, we just didn’t see it looking it’s best today
