What the club says: The legendary James Braid laid out the 18 hole, 6,281 yard heathland course in 1922, yet the quality of his design is as evident today as then, and continues to offer endless variety and extraordinary challenges to golfers at all levels. The Sunday Telegraph Golfing Guide has been moved to describe the classic terrain as "reminiscent of the inland glories of Sunningdale and Woodhall Spa" - and that is high praise indeed!

Drove for two hours to play a dry course and was not disappointed. One new green was wet everywhere else was excellent. Interesting mix of holes and greens were fast and true.

Great condition for the time of year, especially if you consider many courses closed ; very slow play though

Love the course, bone dry in the summer so you have to be ready for the carry. The greens worked well

Top 100 tour

We played here in early July 2020 as part of our “top 100 tour” May/August. We were truly impressed with the presentation of the course and the fantastic layout. This track is a true test of golf so best bring your A game I’d say! In our opinion we would say current rating is quite a bit lower than we would rate it during our visit. On current condition it’s got to be pushing for a top 50 spot. Will be back for sure.

Great course

This course was in very good condition with only one green suffering from the rain. Lovely layout with very well placed bunkers a real feature, course is a good length and makes you think throughout especially on approach shots. Would recommend to everyone just wish they had a driving range but they do have a large practice area.

Always Amazing

Once again blown away by the condition of Thorpeness. Plays tougher in the winter due to cold and wind but so enjoyable and surely one of the most underrated in suffolk.

If you get a chance, go and play. ?25 after 12pm deal in the winter is a serious bargain.

The layout is nice and the area is stunning but the course is not in great condition. Fairways very patchy, Bunkers very inconsistent. Greens run very quick and true but you cant stop a ball on the approach as they bone dry underneath. A very tough course but needs abit of tlc. Plus no range just a open field which is a shame.

Great course, average hotel

Can’t fault the course, it stands as a great test for golfers and a super layout
Hotel is second rate by comparison, although restaurant did serve decent food.

Thorpeness Weekend

Hospitality and accommodation very good but on course the fairways, some tee boxes and greens looking tired. No marshalling on course to move slow play along - 5 hour plus 4 Ball round not good.

Good Layout after 3rd Hole. Very slow play. Tired set up, buildings and condition, Greens quick but well worn, It Rests on history and tradition - needs an enormous upgrade!

Great Course

This is a great golf course from start to finish. There's plenty of trouble if you're not thinking your way round. Needs at least one visit. The greens are fabulously quick and true even in Feb.

Excellent Course

Thorpeness is a joy to play.

It can be tight and tricky off the tee - this is due to the fact that the fairways are mostly lined with heather and gorse. Even a lower handicap player can expect to lose a ball or 2 here.

The layout is stunning and some of the most spectacular golf holes for miles.

Due to the nature of the course its very dry in winter months and provides a good option for those looking to avoid wetter courses.

I would 100% go back over and over again.

Old course lovely

Not much grass on the fairway dry summer. Hard holes small fairways as you would expect from an old course. True greens, £25.00 after 4pm played well today net 69 well pleased. Thorpness is a nice place to visit boating lake, cafes, windmill, house in the clouds. And the sea.
