What The Club Says

The course was designed by Neil Coles and Brian Hugget and opened for play in 1976. Whilst it is not a long course by modern standards, the combination of tree lined fairways and the succession of water holes makes it a particularly challenging course. Playing to your handicap is a real achievement at Silvermere.

Cracking course

Lots of variety, no easy holes and greens and fairways in good nick.
Busy this time of year but less busy in afternoons.

Silvermere - Excellent

The course was in great condition and still as tough as it always has been.
I thought the layout was excellent and challenging.

The shop is superb with a massive range of items available.
The bar and restaurant were also superb and the food excellent.

3 temporary greens due to recent rain.
Greens in decent condition but unfortunately previous golfer?s etiquette need some attention as too many UNREPAIRED PITCH marks on greens..SAD TBH & not entirely green keepers fault.

AC

I live nearby and have been playing here for around 20 years. I'm a big fan of the layout. The condition of the course generally depends on the weather. It's not great in winter (though I've played worse). In summer it can be great but it needs some rain otherwise the fairways turn into hard-baked dust as has happened in 2025.

Because it's a good course that's pay and play, it's busy and yes - it can be achingly slow. Play very early morning (6am-ish if you can handle it, or week day twilight - great value in summer).

The first 6 holes are tight - take irons of the tee. Hole 5 is a bit wider - some take driver here.

Hole 7 is a drivable par 4 but it's difficult to hold the green so probably not the play.

8 is stroke index 1. Long uphill par 4. You won't get there in two in winter unless you're a very big hitter

11 is a monster par 5. If I haven't given up by the time I'm halfway down it, I'm doing well.

13,14,15 and 16 are all good, challenging holes, especially 16

17 & 18 are great holes, protected by water

Pro shop is the best I've ever been to. The driving range is very good but pricey (£14ish for 100 balls or something around that). The 19th terrace by the lake is a great spot to enjoy a breakfast or a beer or both.
