What the club says: The Royal Lytham & St Annes' layout has remained faithful to the original created by the clubs first professional, George Lowe, over a century ago. It is not a conventionally beautiful golf course, surrounded as it is by suburban housing and flanked by a railway line, but it has a charm all of its own. However it is a Links course that is a long way from the sea yet close enough for the sea breeze to have an effect on one's game

Accessible Open coarse
Played 16 January 2020 - first round of the new year! Coarse was in good order considering the time of the year. The greens were well prepared and ran true to the line - if the could find it - there were subtle variations as you would expect on Championship greens. All in all, a wonderful day?s experience - my score of 7 over par on handicap was irrelevantReviewer Rating

Fantastic experience
Had the pleasure of playing on a dry but blustery December morning. Warm welcome in the pro shop and friendly service in the clubhouse for breakfast. Yes it's expensive but worth it. Course was in great condition, some bunkers GUR (bonus!) : great challenge - thought 7, 8 & 9 were the stand out holes. Make sure you wander round the clubhouse too.Reviewer Rating

Superb but not Exceptional
It is a fantastic course and everything about the place oozes quality, but there was just a little spark missing, ITS FLAT !! All of my truly favourite courses have elevation changes, and this is like Hoylake, flat, and it just makes, for me a little disappointing, well worth playing but many better courses out there that don't/won't get the praise they deserve, because maybe they are owned by a controversial figure ( or so the media say ) or they are not on the Open rota, or maybe they are tucked away somewhere, I try and play the top 100 courses, and still to this day I do wonder how they rank them, surely it should just purely about the golf course, and if so this wouldn't be number 13, but still good !!Reviewer Rating

Great course, warm welcome
August - windy day. Wind with most of the front 9. Into the breeze most of the inward 9. Course was immaculate. Greens a little slower than expected. Well worth a visit.(Round played: Aug 2019 - Score: 92 Handicap: 18.1)

Amazing history and course
Driving into the car park you get a feeling of stepping back in time , and its a good feeling, The place is full of history. Like Hoylake (Royal Liverpool) the course looks smaller then it does on TV but doesn`t really play like it. Stay out of the 200+ bunkers , they are killers. The first lot of rough can be played out of but like most links golf you go into the long grass you either lose the ball or have to knock it out with a 9 iron.. Greens were true and flat. Fairways very dry and little wind when we played. Loved the experience. All the staff were fantastic and thank them for a wonderful dayReviewer Rating
