What the club says: Purley Downs, a 6308-yard, par 70, SSS 70, downland layout, designed by JH Taylor in 1904, is superbly situated some 500 feet above sea level with magnificent views over the whole of London.
From the highest vantage points you can see Wembley Arch, Canary Wharf, Hampstead Heath and the City of London landmarks; some even claim to have seen Windsor Castle on a clear day.

Quality course. Mesmerising greens
Really enjoyed our 2nd visit. Clearly a quality course as was very popular. Plenty of 4 balls slowed us down. And so we missed the kitchen. Greens truly excellent & so hard to read. Fairways ideal. Highly recommend.Reviewer Rating

Lovely course, some really interesting holes & great challenges & some excellent views back over London. The fairways’ recovering well from winter & rough was fair however, the greens had been heavily sanded & completely took the joy out of the day because we weren’t told when booking nor when we arrived. Very disappointing. Also plenty of work going on around the clubhouse so it’s going to be great when complete & I’ll be going back then.

Course in good condition despite recent rain and further heavy rain for a short while during the round. Played and drained well. Greens were the quickest I've been on for a while. Nice bacon roll and coffee pre round on our society day. Clubhouse has been re-done recently and is a nice place to spend time pre and post round. Good facilities all round.

Classic old school course
This is a classic downlond course with views over London. Very hilly and undulating and it blew a 2-3 club wind when I played meaning some of the long par 4 holes played likepar 5s and the par 5s played like 4s. Absolutely superb condition and a nice varierty of holes. Tranquil and quiet when I played, apart from the sound of the wind, it is well worth a visit. Not a long course but the greens are tough and you have to be precise with your shots.Reviewer Rating

Links style golf inland
An inland course playing hard and fast with rolling hills and a breeze was as close as you will get to links golf inland. With stunning views of London and fast and true greens, Purley Downs is a great experience and a true test of golf.Reviewer Rating

Given the recent rain, course was in excellent condition. Chucked it down at various times during the day I played but course dealt with it well. Greens have just been tined and sanded but rolled well. Nice toasted sandwich in the clubhouse post round.

Hadn't been here for a while but played with a friend who's a member. Course was in great nick and greens were super quick (esp given time of year) and rolled very well. Course itself it interesting in nature and some recent tree clearance has opened it up in a few places. Great challenge all round with several long par 4's despite not being that long overall. Had bacon sandwich pre round and some lunch once we were done, both of which were excellent.

epic course
all different types of holes ... long par 4s, short par 4s, tricky par 3s. Perhaps only missing piece is a long par 5, but it really didnt matter because the course is 10/10 in design, challenge etc. Also ... very well kept, greenkeepers are doing a great job with fairway maintenance, tee area. Greens are good speed. £35 rate after 1.30PM on week days is a really good deal.Reviewer Rating

Nice ...if not a little too similar
Really enjoyed the round at Purely Downs. Cracking start on a picturesque par 3. The course is not overly punishing, and if your scoring well then sometimes this distracts you from analysing the course itself.But having thought back I'd say how well maintained it was, (considering the awful golf conditions we're having), but I'd also say it was a touch same same for too many holes.
Would I go back - yes without doubt. A dull course well looked after is better than a interesting course that's unplayable.
