What happened?
We've been going to Paultons once a year for about 15 years? Maybe longer? Two years ago we decided to give it a rest after the people who bought Bramshaw bought it. They were charging exorbitant fees to use the driving range. It had always felt a bit like a municipal. But it was ususally good value. Not that well kept. But fair enough for an afternoon now and then.
We played yesterday. Admittedly it had been wet recently. But the greens were awful. Muddy. Bumpy. Not much grass. Looked like February but it wasn't.
The fairways weren't much better.
We saw two greenkeepers on our way round. So there are people working on it but perhaps there simply aren't enough of them.
We will give Paultons a miss for another two or three years.

Not bad
Not a bad course, not played in about 15 years. Greens are immaculate, some rough is like the jungle.Reviewer Rating

Championship Course
Really interesting course which is very strategic- need to find the right areas rather than blast away at the thing. Contrast between the two nines keeps things interesting and the greens were literally perfect which is amazing given the current drought and heat wave. Superb practice facilities. Stayed at the Bell Inn and played the sister courses at Bramshaw Golf club both of which were fantastic.Reviewer Rating

Course in ok condition. Some picturesque holes. Bunkers in terrible condition. ?35 for a round is too expensive for what is on offer here. Too many lost balls after good shots inReviewer Rating

There are drainage ditches in front of several greens. We didn't lnow anything about them. I asked the Pro or Manager in the shop before we went - but he knew nothing about any changes to the course.
Some of the Bunkers were GUR but some were just mud pits. There were muddy areas just off several greens. Its just a lack of care.
The greens themselves were - it has to be said - good. Probably too easy. I had 11 single putts. Thats not me - thats the greens.
But what probably coloured the day for most of us was the range. £2? £4 perhaps? Just to warm up? No. Miniumum price £7.50. You can have 30 minutes with unlimited balls. I don't want unlimited balls. I want to warm up not kill myself.....
I think we will rest Paultons for a few years.

Laid back club, good course and range
Staff really friendly and a decent range. Bar light and bright, with sports on the TV. Course is longer than some and decent quality, with a couple of interesting holes. Found some groups slowish in places. Was an enjoyable day out!Reviewer Rating
