Nice Setting
Good location close to Southampton and not far from BournemouthPlayed here on a few occasions but have to say the condition of the greens are a concern. At least six of them are extremely poor.
The rest of the course is pretty good.

Bunkers and greens
The greens were ,awful patchy we all know they have to be holintined and sand put on them but it was a joke, bunkers ha ha more like bomb craters and they told us they weren't in play then they were in play does nobody check these things , the course used to be great gone down hill drastically 4/10 rating at bestReviewer Rating

Great layout but looking Tired
Greens had been hollow tined and there were green shoots of grass 20mm+ showing. A little bare in place. Bunkers were not maintained and GUR. There were a number of Greenkeepers working the course which included watering the course and greens and spreading seed on the Tees.Reviewer Rating

Must play
The fairways are tight which makes you concentrate and whilst the greens are full of subtle twists and turns, uphill and down they are immaculately maintained. Far and away the best course I have played in the UKReviewer Rating

Poorly Maintained
Very disappointed with the course. When the starter tells you all the bunkers are now GUR because they are not maintained you know it could be interesting!Reviewer Rating

What happened?
We've been going to Paultons once a year for about 15 years? Maybe longer? Two years ago we decided to give it a rest after the people who bought Bramshaw bought it. They were charging exorbitant fees to use the driving range. It had always felt a bit like a municipal. But it was ususally good value. Not that well kept. But fair enough for an afternoon now and then.
We played yesterday. Admittedly it had been wet recently. But the greens were awful. Muddy. Bumpy. Not much grass. Looked like February but it wasn't.
The fairways weren't much better.
We saw two greenkeepers on our way round. So there are people working on it but perhaps there simply aren't enough of them.
We will give Paultons a miss for another two or three years.

Championship Course
Really interesting course which is very strategic- need to find the right areas rather than blast away at the thing. Contrast between the two nines keeps things interesting and the greens were literally perfect which is amazing given the current drought and heat wave. Superb practice facilities. Stayed at the Bell Inn and played the sister courses at Bramshaw Golf club both of which were fantastic.Reviewer Rating

There are drainage ditches in front of several greens. We didn't lnow anything about them. I asked the Pro or Manager in the shop before we went - but he knew nothing about any changes to the course.
Some of the Bunkers were GUR but some were just mud pits. There were muddy areas just off several greens. Its just a lack of care.
The greens themselves were - it has to be said - good. Probably too easy. I had 11 single putts. Thats not me - thats the greens.
But what probably coloured the day for most of us was the range. £2? £4 perhaps? Just to warm up? No. Miniumum price £7.50. You can have 30 minutes with unlimited balls. I don't want unlimited balls. I want to warm up not kill myself.....
I think we will rest Paultons for a few years.

Staff really friendly and a decent range. Bar light and bright, with sports on the TV. Course is longer than some and decent quality, with a couple of interesting holes. Found some groups slowish in places. Was an enjoyable day out!Reviewer Rating

average course that could be so much better
Greens excellent condition ran true, fairways not too bad, however, heavily punished if ball ran out of fairway!! no way of finding ball in the long grass! thus slowing down pace of the game, what shouldve take 4.5 hrs turn out to be 5.25 hrs due to looking for balls in tall grass in end not enjoyable for amateurs or beginners!! dont get me wrong I have played this course on numerous occasions but will not be rushing to play again soon.Reviewer Rating
