surprisingly enjoyable day
It took us a long time to get around the first 13 holes (3 1/2 hours), took a bacon bap at the bar and then returned for the final 5. It's an interesting arrangement yet worked well for us. The fairways were well-groomed with greens that were fast, smooth and predictable.Reviewer Rating

Naunton Downs used to be an 18-hole course, but was bought a few years ago by a group that have developed part of the course for race horse stabling and gallops. Consequently the last 5 holes have been closed and you have to repeat holes 1-5 if you want to play 18.
The course is still maintained in good condition, but the clubhouse facilities are pretty rudimentary, staffed on a shoestring. When we played (using Play-More-Golf points), the clubhouse was locked at noon, as there was nobody there after that time. This may have been a one-off; who knows?

Great course but let down by the course signage!
The course was in great condition and a lovely course to play on. From the tee boxes to the greens it was very well kept. My only negative is the course is shocking for signage when playing your first time. Trying to navigate round was ridiculous and whether I played the correct holes in order I have no idea. The map on the scorecard is embarrassingly wrong and all the yardages are off. I feel a little time correcting these issues and having decent signage for the next hole numbered would make this course a real gem!Reviewer Rating

Played Naunton Downs today. The course was in superb condition. The greens were the best I've played in years, fast and true.
Recommend it. Only downside is that you have to play holes 1 to five twice to make up an eighteen hole course.
Superb place to pay golf, great scenery and full of wildlife.

Poor condition - needs a lot spent
Despite a nice location and a relatively nice clubhouse , course is in really poor condition. Greens are okay but the tees are a disgrace ( White 3rd is like something from a farmyard ). Fairways not much better.I’ve never seen so many weeds in my life.
There are some nice holes but it is just ruined by lack of investment and any/good greenkeeping. I think someone spending too much time on the horses/ owners club rather than the golf.
I was that unimpressed I gave up after 13 holes (10th hole closed so only 17 open) only to find the fancy looking bar closed… At 6:30 pm that’s not good enough.
This course needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it up to scratch and then it probably has some potential . Can’t see ever visiting in the near future even if it was free. Disappointing as live local.
If you’re in this area and better to play Broadway, Cleeve , or even travel down to Painswick. Avoid !

Haven't played this course since before Covid and there are new owners of the club, who are involved in horses. A lot of work has been done to change and add new holes and a gallop all the way through the course, one hole has been removed a some stables have replaced it. The work has not bedded in too well and there are a lot of scruffy holes. Having said that, the greens were immaculate except for 2 of the new ones which were not up to standard. Fairways great and also bunkers had lots of sand in them. Views fabulous but rather strange having horses run by as you are playing your shots. Members very friendly and pace of play good. Did not stay for food as the clubhouse menu was not your normal golfers breakfast etc and a bit pricey

well well well. it's been four years since we last played here and ther have been some changes. First of all immaculate greens and fairways a fantastic course. However, some new inspired additions somewhat spoil what was a good course! Naunton Downs is defined by hole 6 a dastardly tee shot across a tree lined ravine. But one is enough! There is no reason to put in another at hole 10 - a treacherous climb up a muddy path to the tee and then a ball losing strike across the same ravine. As for hole 17, a rather ugly yet difficult strike across a lake. At the same time works are underway to install a "gallop" right through the middle of the golf course. It might be worth another go when the new lake has filled up, underpasses have been installed where the gallop crosses a fairway and paths are installed where there is now mud. We'll give it another go in a couple of years!(Round played: Oct 2021 - Score: 108 Handicap: 24.5)

Such a shame!
The course is part building site with wide muddy trenches across some fairways. Such a shame as this was a great course previously that was playable all year round. Now very rough around the edges with the new holes in the worst condition! Won't be going back any time soon!Reviewer Rating

Nice Course

In decline
I have played this course numerous times over the years and it has been good value for money in the past and a fair test....nothing exciting. However with this visit there has been an obvious decline in the course maintenance. The tees are a disgrace with only the greens appearing to be maintained. First time playing the course. My understanding is that the course has recently changed ownership & there?s clearly some work that needs doing & that appears to be underway. The greens were quick & true, albeit a little patchy in places & the tee boxes need some attention. However this didn't distract from a very enjoyable round, on a very scenic course. All Of the staff were friendly & welcoming.

We had a society day here which was enjoyed by all. Course very well presented with true greens & fairways that are holding their own in the dry weather. Rolling Hills, Superb Views
Played here on a warm, sunny day. It's uphill & down dale, and it was a pretty strenuous walk. Some of the views are outstanding, and several very challenging holes. Apparently it it up for sale, and there was sadly, an air of not quite being up to scratch. Lots of uncut rough areas, and weeds on the fairways, which should have been sorted. Some of the fairways were a bit ropey - apparently a hangover from last year's very hot weather. If this place was really well maintained it would merit a "very good". It'll be interesting to see how it pans out. At the moment it is not somewhere I would rush back to, given the number of terrific other courses available at similar prices around that area.Reviewer Rating

Lovely course
Lovely course out in the countryside with no traffic or other noise. Some great holes, watch out for the 3-tier green on the par 5 13th. Great layout and very good greens and look forward to playing it each year.Reviewer Rating

Hadn't played this course since 2017 but we were pleased to get a tee time on a Monday at a decent rate. Course was generally in really good condition. The greens were so fast and there was minimal evidence of pitch marks on them which is a welcome situation. Fairways ran fast and you had to ensure you placed your ball in the right place. The only negative was a very strong wind but that wasn't the club's fault. Would recommend to anybody.
