well well well. it's been four years since we last played here and ther have been some changes. First of all immaculate greens and fairways a fantastic course. However, some new inspired additions somewhat spoil what was a good course! Naunton Downs is defined by hole 6 a dastardly tee shot across a tree lined ravine. But one is enough! There is no reason to put in another at hole 10 - a treacherous climb up a muddy path to the tee and then a ball losing strike across the same ravine. As for hole 17, a rather ugly yet difficult strike across a lake. At the same time works are underway to install a "gallop" right through the middle of the golf course. It might be worth another go when the new lake has filled up, underpasses have been installed where the gallop crosses a fairway and paths are installed where there is now mud. We'll give it another go in a couple of years!

In decline

I have played this course numerous times over the years and it has been good value for money in the past and a fair test....nothing exciting. However with this visit there has been an obvious decline in the course maintenance. The tees are a disgrace with only the greens appearing to be maintained. Avoid until vast improvement.

Great course for mid-high handicapper; the fairways are wide and the rough is challenging but not so much so that it ruins your card on wayward shots. There are also some really interesting holes that will challenge golfers of any ability. The fairways and greens are in great condition (April) and the course is both picturesque and very peaceful. The staff are helpful and polite and the club house facilities are good. Overall a great place to play.

Lovely course, in very good condition, despite the dry weather.
Quite a lot of dog leg holes, which need careful shots off the tee.
Overall a great course to play.

The Naunton Downs Golf course is a beautiful course nestled deep into the Cotswolds hills. The course itself is fairly challenging with plenty of woodlands and sand bunkers throughout the course. The greens are amongst the best I've played on and really enjoy the 6th Hole.

Have played at this course 5 times now, all in the winter season, have been impressed every time with the course maintenance, greens are great, fairways impeccable (and the rough isn't too bad either!). have now signed up to a 4 month membership based on my experiences at this course, not to mention very friendly and inviting staff!

First time i have played the course and would love to play it again. Very welcoming on arrival, small shop but adequately stocked. The course off the yellows is not particular long but is a decent challenge. The greens are in decent nick and are not the easiest to hit. Fairways are worth a mention as they are in fantastic order. I didnt play particular well on my visit but that had nothing to do with the course. If you are in the area and after a good test, with a hospitable course then try this one. I dont think you will be that disappointed.

We have played two rounds at Naunton Downs and all four of us rate it highly - it's very high in the Cotswold Hills, so may be a bit "brisk" when the Winter wind blows.
Only gripe is that after a 4.5 hour round on Sunday the bar was closed.

Poor condition - needs a lot spent

Despite a nice location and a relatively nice clubhouse , course is in really poor condition. Greens are okay but the tees are a disgrace ( White 3rd is like something from a farmyard ). Fairways not much better.
I’ve never seen so many weeds in my life.
There are some nice holes but it is just ruined by lack of investment and any/good greenkeeping. I think someone spending too much time on the horses/ owners club rather than the golf.

I was that unimpressed I gave up after 13 holes (10th hole closed so only 17 open) only to find the fancy looking bar closed… At 6:30 pm that’s not good enough.

This course needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it up to scratch and then it probably has some potential . Can’t see ever visiting in the near future even if it was free. Disappointing as live local.

If you’re in this area and better to play Broadway, Cleeve , or even travel down to Painswick. Avoid !
