What the club says: Follow in the footsteps of golfing legend Sandy Lyle who learned his game at Hawkstone Park. The stunning landscape provides golfers of all standards a wonderful contrast with two championship courses and a six hole par 3 academy course.

Fab course

Two great courses only criticism is the old course is very close to other holes and all seems a bit squashed in but beautiful setting and fantastic greens.

Worth a visit

The Championship course is very pretty, with its varied types of tree and water hazards. Not the easiest of courses but good fun to play. A lot of "lay up or go for it" decisions have to be made. Good value for money with the exception of £32.50p for a buggy.

Worth a visit

Hawkstone is in a lovely spot and the Championship course has plenty of variety. Lots of tree lined fairways with established trees and where there isn't any wood there is plenty of water. I booked the round on their web site which was open to Visitors at a cost of £22.00 per player, which I thought was very good value. However £32.50p for a buggy is a not.

Great Place

A great course - well worth the visit. The fairways and greens are very well kept. You'll have a fun finding balls in the rough mind...

2 Great courses, currently upgrading hotel and building new clubhouse. Only drawback no decent night out nearby. Don't bother with Wem.

Not as good a course as the Hawkstone. Scruffy fairways and not as interesting.

Decent course

Played both 18 hole courses & very nice too.
The only thing that needs altering is tha layout of a few holes.
Thoroughly enjoyed playing both courses and the overnight stay in the hotel even though there was construction work being done.
Wil definitely be returning very soon

Disappointing

2 night, 3 rounds for a party of 8, September 2018
Hotel:
On checking in to my room, I found the bed was stripped and the room had not been made up, although this was dealt with reasonably promptly, and I was offered a complementary drink for the inconvenience.
The dining room and bar area share a large open plan space, and we were seated near large patio doors leading to an outside space that was very popular with members of the wedding party that was in full swing. Consequently, it was very cold and draughty, even after nipping to our rooms to grab a sweater. A very loud, group of golfers who had probably had a few drinks, seated at the next table to us, added to the ambience. On the plus side, the food and service were good.
A relaxing drink in the bar afterwards was not to be as the wedding disco was in full swing in a room leading off the bar area. This continued into the early hours so we were able to sing along lying in bed in our rooms situated directly above the disco.
The second night was the Shrewsbury Riding Club Gala Dinner so we enjoyed another cold, noisy evening in the bar.
On the plus side, the hotel staff were in the main friendly, helpful and efficient.
Golf:
We played the Championship course on the first two days. A tough course for our group of average age 70+ and handicaps mostly 20+. Lots of water and long rough in which to lose balls, which we duly did. What was even more irritating was losing balls in flooded bunkers! We were looking forward to the less taxing Hawkstone Course for our third round, but we were informed that for ‘health and safety’ reasons, we would not be able to have buggies. This in spite of being told the day before we arrived that buggies would be ‘no problem, this time of year’. As several of our group would be unable to play without the use of a buggy, we reluctantly opted to play the Championship Course again. On completing our round, we were greeted with the sight of two buggies going down the 18th hole of the Hawkstone Course. On querying this, we were told that these players had disabilities that meant they had to have buggies. So apparently the health and safety of disabled golfers is not of any concern.
We won’t be returning.
