Played both courses on a stay and play weekend. Suited all 18 members of are party with various handicaps. Both courses were in excellent condition with a different challenge (Hawkstone trees , Championship water) .The hotel rooms are very basic but very clean and the food served is great, would recommend paying the extra and have the sirloin (perfectly cooked). Will be returning but agree with other reviews £30 for a buggy is a bit steep. MR PINK Handicap 13 .

Excellent courses

Both the Hawkstone and Championship courses are fantastic courses with some really good but difficult holes. I will certainly play the courses again. As a middle handicapper the courses are certainly very fair. A must visit. The hotel and Lyle bar are also excellent.

Disappointing

2 night, 3 rounds for a party of 8, September 2018
Hotel:
On checking in to my room, I found the bed was stripped and the room had not been made up, although this was dealt with reasonably promptly, and I was offered a complementary drink for the inconvenience.
The dining room and bar area share a large open plan space, and we were seated near large patio doors leading to an outside space that was very popular with members of the wedding party that was in full swing. Consequently, it was very cold and draughty, even after nipping to our rooms to grab a sweater. A very loud, group of golfers who had probably had a few drinks, seated at the next table to us, added to the ambience. On the plus side, the food and service were good.
A relaxing drink in the bar afterwards was not to be as the wedding disco was in full swing in a room leading off the bar area. This continued into the early hours so we were able to sing along lying in bed in our rooms situated directly above the disco.
The second night was the Shrewsbury Riding Club Gala Dinner so we enjoyed another cold, noisy evening in the bar.
On the plus side, the hotel staff were in the main friendly, helpful and efficient.
Golf:
We played the Championship course on the first two days. A tough course for our group of average age 70+ and handicaps mostly 20+. Lots of water and long rough in which to lose balls, which we duly did. What was even more irritating was losing balls in flooded bunkers! We were looking forward to the less taxing Hawkstone Course for our third round, but we were informed that for ‘health and safety’ reasons, we would not be able to have buggies. This in spite of being told the day before we arrived that buggies would be ‘no problem, this time of year’. As several of our group would be unable to play without the use of a buggy, we reluctantly opted to play the Championship Course again. On completing our round, we were greeted with the sight of two buggies going down the 18th hole of the Hawkstone Course. On querying this, we were told that these players had disabilities that meant they had to have buggies. So apparently the health and safety of disabled golfers is not of any concern.
We won’t be returning.

Very nice course. Quite difficult with many blind holes. Difficult pin positions on sloped greens. Interesting layout.

Very hilly course and to many blind shots, very difficult to play for the 1st time.
Not ideal for the high handicapper. Should be more signs to help 1st time players. Course in great condition.

This course is a hidden gem. Stunning layout and really makes you think your way around the course. The course was busy with large parties, but was well managed by the staff who were very professional through our whole stay.
Definitely recommend this course

Both courses in great condition. Played both in the past two weeks. Greens very fair and true, bunkers and fairways well maintained. Seems to be some money being pumped into the place which is pleasing to see. Clubhouse staff were very friendly and food was good. Best club in Shropshire imo.
