Absolute shocker
No sand in bunkers, more stones. Greens were burnt scorched and poor. Grass cuttings everywhere. Really untidy and unloved. Not a single green staff working. Wouldn't waste your money, absolutely awful.Reviewer Rating

Awful Condition, Poor Layout and Awful Service
15 of us arrived to play this course we were supposed to have 16 but one dropped out at the last minute, so when we arrived the golf club added more money to the already very high fees as we didn't have the minimum of 16 players to get a better deal, this would of been fine if the course was in good condition however the greens has recently been Hollow tined and were in appalling condition huge holes all over the green not sanded properly which made them unplayable, any good course can make the greens playable no problem after maintenance, at the very least the green fee should have been discounted for the awful condition! the course had some good holes and some unplayable. Would no recommend anyone to play this course. However the staff in the bar after the round were very good and the foo was nice also.(Round played: Sep 2018 - Score: 78 Handicap: 2.9)

Hawkstone Park Championship
The course was generally in very poor condition. The greens were quite good, but the fairways were awful. The majority of them were completely boggy. At times it was like playing in a mud bath. Also to make matters worse there was no cleaning facilities when we came off to at least try to remove the excess mud which had accumulated on both shoes and trolleys.Reviewer Rating

mud-fest
played both courses over the last 2 days. both good layouts and lovely scenery but the courses have clearly been over used, with little maintenance, and the mud was on another level, particularly on the championship. no range balls available (machine empty), no nets, very few ball washers, or green to tee signage; all needed. hotel investment is great-nice rooms, good food and welcoming staff. hopefully course and greens investment will follow.Reviewer Rating

Disappointing
2 night, 3 rounds for a party of 8, September 2018Hotel:
On checking in to my room, I found the bed was stripped and the room had not been made up, although this was dealt with reasonably promptly, and I was offered a complementary drink for the inconvenience.
The dining room and bar area share a large open plan space, and we were seated near large patio doors leading to an outside space that was very popular with members of the wedding party that was in full swing. Consequently, it was very cold and draughty, even after nipping to our rooms to grab a sweater. A very loud, group of golfers who had probably had a few drinks, seated at the next table to us, added to the ambience. On the plus side, the food and service were good.
A relaxing drink in the bar afterwards was not to be as the wedding disco was in full swing in a room leading off the bar area. This continued into the early hours so we were able to sing along lying in bed in our rooms situated directly above the disco.
The second night was the Shrewsbury Riding Club Gala Dinner so we enjoyed another cold, noisy evening in the bar.
On the plus side, the hotel staff were in the main friendly, helpful and efficient.
Golf:
We played the Championship course on the first two days. A tough course for our group of average age 70+ and handicaps mostly 20+. Lots of water and long rough in which to lose balls, which we duly did. What was even more irritating was losing balls in flooded bunkers! We were looking forward to the less taxing Hawkstone Course for our third round, but we were informed that for ‘health and safety’ reasons, we would not be able to have buggies. This in spite of being told the day before we arrived that buggies would be ‘no problem, this time of year’. As several of our group would be unable to play without the use of a buggy, we reluctantly opted to play the Championship Course again. On completing our round, we were greeted with the sight of two buggies going down the 18th hole of the Hawkstone Course. On querying this, we were told that these players had disabilities that meant they had to have buggies. So apparently the health and safety of disabled golfers is not of any concern.
We won’t be returning.

Lovely set up for a hotel course
Played the WEM bowl 36 hole event, both courses completely different. AS previously said this is an American style layout with lots of water and you can see most of the shots you need to play unlike the Hawkstone course with slopey greens and blind shots. The course was in good condition for the event, greens running nice with a relaxed vibe being mainly 45 competitors and the rest hotel guests. a good day out and a good test especially when the event costs £40 inc food. worth a visit, Pencil in August for the competition. pace of play was only downside being 4 balls and 4hrs 30mins.

Great course
Love playing both golf courses here as they test your skills as a golfer. Greens in great condition despite the hot weather but the fairways were a bit bare which was not unusual i suppose.Reviewer Rating
