What the club says: The Glamorganshire Golf Club, situated in the seaside town of Penarth on the outskirts of Cardiff is the second oldest golf club in South Wales. Although being near the sea, the Glamorganshire is not a links, but an 18-hole parkland course on undulating ground on the edge of what are now Cosmeston Lakes.
The Club is steeped in tradition - it was at the Glamorganshire that the Stableford scoring system was first tried by its creator, Dr. Frank Stableford in September 1898, and where the Barbarian Rugby Football Club made Penarth their home in 1901 for their traditional Easter tour to Wales, the Glamorganshire was adopted as the place to spend the free Sunday.

Ticks all the boxes
Played the course for the first time in a seniors competition. Really enthusiastic welcome from a member who pointed out where everything was and clearly explained the format. Great bacon roll and coffee before play. Nice to see 10 minute gaps for 4 balls which meant no hold ups throughout the round. The course was in excellent condition with the greens being superb. Nice varied layout and although an undulating course it wasn’t overly tiring. Great food afterwards at a very reasonable price. Looking forward to returning next year. The only very small improvement would be some signage to direct to some tees as a few holes weren’t immediately obviousReviewer Rating

Why does it get to be called the Glamorganshire?
Shame about the weather at this time of year. The course was in good condition however, the greens nice and true, the wet conditions, drying, slowed them up for the newbies. No standing water but wet first cut very tight, fairways a must. Overall good course, if unspectacular. Played with friendly locals which helped. Nice clubhouse, good atmosphere.
