What The Club Says

The fairways can be quite tight and approach shots to the cleverly designed par 3's certainly require accuracy. With greens rated amongst the best in Cambridgeshire and three daunting finishing holes (including one of the longest par fives in the county), every game will always be one to remember.

Buggies are available by prior arrangement (provided they are permitted on the course - which is weather dependant).

Superb clubhouse with food and drink available either prior to or after a round. Societies welcome - so please enquire if you have a large party (more than 8) wishing to play.

Slowest day ever

The online booking system should highlight competitions taking place. Upon arrival it would be nice to be warned by staff that it’s going to be a slow round. Only warned of competitions by an overheard conversation in the locker room. Then there is the unwillingness of members to invite a two ball through. From first to last hole we caught the four-ball in front and then waited as they deliberated long and hard over EVERY shot and waited for each other to play every time. No ready golf at all. No apology. No chance of playing through. The course was empty in front of them. The course was in good condition and it was a lovely weather day but this was the least enjoyable round of golf I have ever played. Absolutely painful. We also had a green keeper stay with us for eight holes! Lots of times I couldn’t have any conversation with my playing partner because the mower was flying around us. Third time I’ve been to Girton. Always get a stuffy reception in the shop but the course is nice enough to ignore that. We let the two ball behind us join us on the last hole as we were all waiting together for a while - they had teed off 35 mins after us (the players in between had walked off) - they couldn’t believe how obstructive the players in front of us were. Lots of courses to choose from in this area and the vast majority of them are less than £45. I will not be back.

Beautiful Course

Played for first time today, wasn’t expecting much and clubhouse is slightly dated but where this course comes into its own is the golf course! Which is what it’s all about. Very well looked after, stunning setting and being a golf course that’s been around for a long long time approaching 100 years the course layout is fantastic and a lot of the time you can’t even see the other holes or other golfers. Reall beautiful layout and loads of challenging interesting holes with hazards. The rough is light and not the type that if you land a foot into you have no chance of finding your ball. You’re more likely to drop shots of the cleverly designed course hazard which is how it should be. Greens spot on and overall very well kept course. Best in Cambridge I’ve played, loved it. People were also very welcoming.

Good enjoyable course

I played at Girton in July 2023 as part of a golf society. Being just north of Cambridge, it is inevitably a very flat course. This suits me very well with my advancing years! It is a reasonable challenge without being too difficult for most golfers. I thought it to be a very suitable course for golf societies where abilities can vary from single handicappers to very high handicappers. The clubhouse and on course staff were very friendly and we were made to feel very welcome. I would certainly play here again.

Well-kept course

Girton golf course, very friendly staff and fellow golfers. We played in freezing weather and although winter greens were in play the course was extremely playable and is a great looking course. The winter greens were bobbly but fun to play. The main greens looked lovely, we look forward to going back in warmer weather and playing.
The staff were friendly although not a full lunch menu was available but bacon sandwiches were warm and welcoming.

Decent enough course without doing anything outstanding. A little up and down in places. Very flat. Back 9 was a little more interesting. Nice welcome from those at the club and well looked after. Enjoyed my day but wouldn't rush back.

Worth Playing

Course is worth a visit if you are local.
Tidy shortish course but quite challenging in places - especially off the tee. Have done some work recently to try and improve some of the holes. The greens were really good and subtle breaks ca be tough to read. Enjoyable course.

I was disappointed by my visit to Girton. 5 temporary greens and one hole out of play is understandable given wet weather, but it should be flagged on the website. Playing off portable plastic mats on fairways likewise should be flagged on the website, and certainly in the pro shop -- no one told me a thing and then members got cross as they saw me going to the first tee without one.\\\\\\\\Course is OK, but flat and a little dull. No really challenging holes.\\\\\\\\May come back in summer to see what it is like in good conditions, but won\\\\\\\'t be back for a while.
