What the club says: An 18 hole parkland course with a variation of hole designs to challenge golfers of all abilities. The course has memorable views and in particular when playing down to the green on the second hole where the verdant and pituresque backdrop is a sight to behold on any day.
Although the 15th, 16th and 18th holes run adjacent to the M6 motorway, its presence is hardly noticeable once you have left the 14th Green where it comes into view for the first and last time. The 14th green at Gathurst can be seen to the left of the M6 motorway when travelling north and around a mile from and approaching junction 27.
The 18th Hole is a long par 4, even longer in wet conditions, and a good second shot will land you on the green situated in front of the clubhouse and patio where afterwards, you can have a relaxing drink, either on the patio or in the friendly atmosphere of the bar.

Real Gem
I had the opportunity to play a round at Gathurst Golf Club after work with Kev Cleaver and Craig Hurley and what a fantastic hidden gem of a course it was.The course was is fantastic condition and you can see the care the green keepers put in to keep the place in top condition. The views from this course was picturesque and my photos don’t do it justice but it’s somewhere I will definitely be revisiting.
If your passing the Wigan area make sure you pop in for a round and you won’t regret it ????????????

Nice course worth playing
Second time playing Gathurst GC this time in one of their well run open competitions. Friendly welcome in the clubhouse and pro shop. Good practice facilities, large putting green next to 1st hole. Course in great condition, greens mint. Good walk around as there are some ups and downs to negotiate but nothing to strenuous. Some nice looking holes and proper card wreckers like the 17th par 3. Well worth a round at Gathurst for sure.Reviewer Rating

Great Parkland Golf Course
First time I've played here and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The layout of the course is excellent with wide fairways. They are free lined, as it is a parkland golf course but they don't cause too many problems when going offline. If being over critical the greens could have been given another cut, but overall they had a good true roll to them.Reviewer Rating

Good Course
A course that uses its contours well, taking advantage of its slopes & hollows. It's in fantastic condition & the greens are fast & true.
The first is a fairly gentle start, but then the 2nd is a cracking downhill par 4. It arguably gets a little repetitive as you play around the practice area in the middle of the course, but that's being very picky.
I loved the 15th towards the motorway, it's a really nice hole.
The guy in the shop was brilliant & talked through almost every hole & where to go before we teed off which was brilliant.
Definitely worth a visit

Suffering a little
I really like the layout of the course and in perfect conditions it would be great. Greens seemed to be suffering with the heavy storms recently as they were slow and bobbly. Nice course tho(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 89 Handicap: 14.7)

Nice course, worth playing
Played Gathurst for first time in an open event. Well organised. Friendly welcome all round. Great breakfast. Good practice facilities. Course in great condition, greens firm and true. Some nice holes, a couple of water hazards in play especially on par 3 17th. A few ups and downs but quite easy on the feet. Will return for sure.(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 77 Handicap: 5.2)

Great courae
Went to Gathurst on an overcast drizzly day and got a little bit wet but the course was in superb condition. The fairways and the greens were as good as you get. Due to the torrential rain in the previous couple of days there was some water in the bunkers but hey the rules cover that. Played here a few times over the last 10 years and it's always in great condition.Reviewer Rating

well worth a visit
Well maintained course with good variety of holes. Don't go near the pond on the right with your first tee shot, the Canada geese have made a 50 yd toilet area. Once past that the course is fine with a number of tricky holes with slopes and penalising lateral ditches along quite a few holes. Greens are of reasonable size. Clubhouse was good and post match meal was ok.Reviewer Rating

Bitter Sweet!!!
I would like to start by saying the course and the gentleman in the pro shop were absolutely spot on. However, once our round had finished and we went to purchase a drink from the clubhouse we were approached by a member of the course who asked us what we thought of the course (very friendly) only for him to follow it up with "just a couple of things lads"..... He then proceeded to tell me I weren't allowed to wear my cap indoors (even though I was going back outside with my drink), and also that "a few members" had complained that our golf shirts were not tucked in. I do not understand the attitudes of members like this at golf courses I actually had to look around to see were I was at the time and yes it was Gathurst in Wigan and not Muirfield or St Andrews. I can honestly say if every course I visited had members like this I would happily sell my clubs and not play golf ever again! So much for growing the game and all that. Such a shame.I must again reiterate that the gent in the pro shop was first class, even after we had told him about our experience.
