What the club says: Situated on the outskirts of Wigan, Porters Wood 9-hole golf course is set in natural, undulating parkland between the villages of Shevington and Orrell.

The course measures 1,424 yards and consists of 7 par 3’s and 2 par 4’s. Every one of the 9 holes offers a unique challenge, with danger lurking at every turn. Whether it be Ackhurst Brook which runs through the heart of the course, the ancient woodland of Porters Wood, the steep valleys, ponds, bunkers, banks of gorse, or a mixture of young and mature vegetation, golfers of every ability are sure to be tested.

Easy to find. Tests chipping skills. No long holes. Should be able to go round without losing a ball. Interesting distances on holes will help decide Club selection. Well worth a visit to hone and or improve skill set. Quite possible to play 2 rounds for a very reasonable price.

A lovely par 3 course essentially 2 short par 4s and 7 par 3?s perfect for getting to grips with your iron play.
Lovely hole 7 hitting through a narrow gap all in all the greens are kept immaculate and it's a lovely 9 hole course to play ?8 is a really good price and why not play another 9 for an additional ?5 can't beat it 18 holes ?13 lovely stuff can't complain.

New to golf

Started playing in June 21 and have been a regular ever since. In summer, the fairways and greens are immaculate and a credit to the staff. I average low 40s with my best being 38. Great way to get into the game before you venture onto more challenging courses. Give it a try.

First timer

Brand new to golf so made my debut here. Loved every hole even though my putting is awful. Can't wait to go back and see how much , or not, I've improved. Very impressed overall. Give it a go.

One of the best par 3 courses in the NW

Essentially a par 3 course but the 1st and 9th holes are short par 4's. All the holes are intetesting and challenging. The greens are excellent. This os a great wsy to practice short holes for the more serious golfers and os also good for beginners. The par 3's are a good length so representative of par 3's on a full course.

Superb course!

This course is always a pleasure to play, and they work hard to ensure it is always immaculate no matter the weather. Great test for the short irons.

Always enjoyable.

I know this course well but it is always a challenge (to me anyway!) It looks simple at first but if you are not accurate the ball can roll well away from the green for a very tricky return shot. The greens are always immaculate despite what some players have reported (usually in the middle of winter). A welcoming little course.
