What The Club Says
The course is located within the sandhills and pine woods of Formby, the natural terrain providing a memorable challenge to the golfer. Members play the course at 6505 yards but the championship length has recently been increased to 7028 yards. Accuracy is always required since the indigenous heather protects much of the rough and great caution is required whether this be off the tee, in approach shots, or on the green.

Heathland by the Sea
Such a great set up - if you're a member here you've done well! played 36 holes in the summer, which worked out at good value for money. The course winds itself around the outside of the property, with the ladies course in the middle, so you get all wind directions in 1 round, and there's a strong heathland vibe, despite it being classed as links. We played the yellow tees in the morning, then mixed it up with the reds in the afternoon. Despite being a few 100 yards shorter, it still remains a challenge due to excellent design and well placed bunkering. The clubhouse is also excellent, and offers a dormy option. Main regret is not playing the ladies course too, but that's just a good reason to revisit!Reviewer Rating

Magical Formby
Formby is the gem on the Lancashire golf coast; a true escape from reality and the most unique yet challenging test of golf that the area has to offer. Holes 1-4 invite you into your round, running parallel to the train tracks like any true links should, with cleverly placed bunkers and heather set back against gigantic pine trees. Moving through to the 5th, a genius par 3, you begin to feel the strength of the course. Holes 6-10 are undoubtably the best stretch of 5 holes that I have ever played. Slowly increasing in their majesty, with the 9th (a 450 yard par 4 from a hugely elevated tee stretching out towards the Irish Sea) being one of the finest holes in the UK; if not the world! It’s hard to pick a favourite, but the 7th is absolutely stunning and can gift you a birdie or completely destroy your scorecard, there is no in-between. Holes 11-16 are true links, walled with sand dunes and peppered with deep riveted bunkers. The 12th hole is rated as one of the best on the course, but be sure to take a look at the view from the back tee on the 14th - it is breathtaking. 16 is a stunning, short and killer par 3, a must-have for any top course. Finally, shooting down the par-5 17th, you see the beauty of the clubhouse in the distance, lined with tall pine trees on the right hand side. 18 is a classy closing hole, with an incredible green that is a true test of any putter! Make sure you visit Formby (and Formby Ladies) but be sure to not get it confused with Formby Hall.Reviewer Rating
