What The Club Says

The course was created in 1975 by Sir Henry Cotton and Robert Sandow. The par 72, 18-hole course plays 6,443 yards off the back tees and makes superb use of the mature oak woodlands on which it was built. Strategically placed water hazards and bunkers along with tree lined fairways makes accuracy a premium and the course rewarding for all standards of play. Situated a stones throw from Effingham Junction railway on the main line from London Waterloo, and a short drive from the A3/M25 junction, the club is easily accessible and the perfect escape from the bustle of the city.
A three hole 50th Anniversary project was completed in the summer of 2025, creating our signature 9th hole with a shot over water to a sleeper-lined green, adding 40 yards to a par and converting a short par 4 into a picturesque par 3.

Mr

Had an enjoyable round on a nice December day with the course in good condition considering the recent wet weather. Tees were well forward which made it a little easier, but quite tight in places. A fair amount of undergrowth had been removed and more was being done. My golf partner had played there fairly soon after it was built (nearly 50 years ago) and remembers much more bushes lining the fairways. My only problem was personal in that my golf trolley collapsed on the way to the first tee and I had to hire an electric one from the proshop. Excellent half way hut by the 10th tee which was still open at 2pm (very welcoming). The bar area and staff were very welcoming and any where that serves draft Speckled Hen is fine by me! My only slight negative was the distance between the proshop and the bar/changing rooms. The added bonus of 25 practice balls before the round is an excellent idea. Looking forward to a return trip.

Very enjoyable day out. Course is a good mix of challenging, forgiving and interesting. Some really good holes. Good option in the area for visiting golfers. Much more enjoyable than nearby silvermere. Would happily go again.

Hadn't played here for years, and then only once before. Course itself is well designed and a good challenge despite it's apparent lack of length. Back 9 was more interesting than the front as you see some elevation change and 18 is an excellent finishing par 5. Greens were a little slower than expected but true enough with some subtle borrows. Due to the recent dry spell, the fairways were bordering on unplayable with some very odd bounces taking place even when hitting the centre which led to some undesirable results. Rating would be higher once they get that issue sorted via some rain and appropriate care. Our society were very well looked after with both bacon roll and subsequent dinner in the evening being excellent.

Great Day

Despite being course maintenance, it was still in great condition. From start to finish, the team were organised, welcoming, and the day couldn't have been better.

The Drift Golf Course has a dynamic and exciting course layout. I particularly liked the long par3 in the back nine, which was challenging, but luckily I made a par there.

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip to Surrey & was impressed with what we found. Extensive practice areas. Large Driving range. An interesting wooded tree lined course & even though there were several aerated greens they played well if a little slow. The fairways were good if a little worn from the amount of play but held up well. There were 2 shortened holes too but both will be excellent looking at the work that seems not long from completion. Very keen to get back here when all done. Food was good too at lunch sadly the kitchen closed at 5 & missed a return order.

An extremely happy, professional, and welcoming team in the pro-shop, on the course, and in the club-house. It's obvious the staff and members are proud and passionate about their course and want to share its success with anyone who is lucky enough to play. It's a real hidden gem and well worth a visit. The driving range facilities are excellent and the flexibility the club approaches its work with truly came out when my husband and I joined for just 7 weeks.

The course was absolutely perfect in every way. From the well-maintained fairways to the challenging but fair greens, every detail was thoughtfully designed to provide an exceptional golfing experience. The layout was both scenic and strategically interesting, keeping me engaged throughout the entire round. The staff was friendly and helpful, adding to the overall positive atmosphere. I was thoroughly impressed and very satisfied with the experience. It’s a course I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-notch day of golf. I can't wait to return!
