Highly Recommended 2018
What the club says: The Championship Course has hosted eight Open Championships, one Women’s British Open and two Seniors Open making it one of the very few to have done so in the UK. It is one of the three courses used for the annual Dunhill Links, the others being Kingsbarns and the Old Course in St Andrews and in 2018 The Open Championship returned to the course. In 2018, the Championship Course was voted Best Golf Course in Scotland over £100 by the general public, the second time it has won the award in the past three years.
The Burnside oozes character and from the back tees is a splendid test of golf.
Many of the short holes could grace the top links courses around with the 5th and 14th in particular providing dramatic challenges for the player who strives to gain his par 3.
The finish is also strong with the 17th proving to be one of the hardest par 4’s that can be found anywhere in golf and many a score has been ruined by the out of bounds fence at the 18th.
It was on this course in 1953 where the great Ben Hogan shot 70 to help him qualify for the Open Championship which he subsequently won.
The Carnoustie Buddon Course opened for play as an 18 hole course back in 1981 when Dave Thomas and Peter Alliss designed the original course on former Ministry of Defence land. All the holes are named after battles as recognition to the military, who have been good neighbours to Carnoustie since the 1830’S. On the seaward side of the course you will see one of the most important army training areas in the whole of Britain.
The Carnoustie Buddon Links is a fantastic test of golf with great natural beauty. It starts and finishes as a links course with several holes in the middle of the round tree-lined. Boasting attractive lakes rich with local wildlife especially on the 11th hole, this course consistently creates a great experience for all golfers.

Burnside , Carnoustie
Great test of all your golf game holes can be easy 1 day hard the next when it's windy it's very hard as any links(Round played: Sep 2020 - Score: 88 Handicap: 20.3)

(Round played: Aug 2020 - Score: 81 Handicap: )

Tough course but enjoyable
Carnoustie is a tough course, especially if the wind is into you from the first tee. Challenges on every hole, but a very worthwhile and enjoyable experience(Round played: Jul 2020 - Score: 97 Handicap: 17.2)

Great Links

Great course
Carnoustie burnside course is a great venue to play some pars achievable others not quite so! Keep on the fairways coz once in the rough a whole different game!!!

Good Challenge
Interesting course with a variety of holes and hazards. Few with water hazards. Often has wind affecting it as it is on the coast. Greens is good condition

Magical Carnoustie
Incredible, magical course that was well worth the trip. Caddies were outstanding and also worth the money. I very much look forward to playing again when I have improved.(Round played: Aug 2019 - Score: 111 Handicap: 23.2)

Must play
The Burnside in carnoustie is challenging at best I am a new member to this course and play most Thursdays. I find my short game needs work along with putting. The fairways are fast running and the greens are also fast. Overall a must play if in the area.(Round played: Aug 2019 - Score: 85 Handicap: )

A real challenge
Course and facilities excellent and well up to OPEN standard. Fairways were tight and yardage was above normal so a real challenge but definitely worth taking on.(Round played: Jul 2019 - Score: 105 Handicap: 19.9)

Best Links ever
What a test of golf, truly the best challenge of golf in Europe. Coming home from 15 is particularly challenging with 16 into the wind you are looking at a good old hit with a wood to get there!!(Round played: May 2019 - Score: 88 Handicap: 12)

20 of us played the Buddon Links course, all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Greens are looking great and will be fast when open for the season.

Worth the visit
Recently travelled up to play Carnoustie as part of a trio of courses in the region. Having played the Open here and with the Alfred Dunhill Links being prepared it was in good condition, and we were fortunate the weather was kind. The course was enjoyable to play, generally in good condition, and greens played true as you would expect. The round took 6 hours, which was largely because we were held up at countless holes and you would expect a better pace of play to be enforced, even though it was easy to lose a ball it should not be the case that you are waiting at most of the back 9 tee boxes given there are course rangers.
I personally felt it lacked the 'wow' factor that I thought it may have, and it is a shame that you are only allowed simulators to practice - as well as have to pay £5 for trolleys which after a £200 charge to play the course felt a little cheeky.
Maybe I had expected more, but it felt as though the course history was more of an attraction than the course itself. The last four holes were indeed a card wrecker and the only solace was that many better players than I have had their scorecard ruined by them. Even though it was disappointing it was actually still enjoyable to be challenged by them and they were probably the highlight despite not scoring!
If you are in the region it would be worth playing, but I would have to say compared to Kingsbarns (admittedly a different style course) I felt the overall level fell a little short for the money paid.
The staff were very friendly though, in both the clubhouse and the main hotel, so it was just a shame that it didn't quite deliver in other areas.
