What the club says: The club was orginally mapped out in 1905 by George Lowe the professional at Lytham St. Annes. Iin 1908 the course was redesigned by Alec (Sandy) Herd, former British Open Champion at Hoylake in 1902.

The course was altered and increased to 18 holes between its inception in 1905 and 1929, as well as many other alterations. It was however in December 1929 that the course was visited by James Braid, 5 times British Open winner and renowned golf course designer. James Braid suggested at the time, three new holes, over thirty bunkers, several new tee beds and mounds. The local paper called it extravangant! The layout of the course still remains the same after all this time, which is a testament to James Braid.

As well as being a pleasant place to enjoy a round of golf, there are also superb views across the town and surrounding villages, below Pendle Hill. On a clear day you can see the "Three Peaks" - Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent.

Tough challenge

Despite a par of 68, Burnley is a tough challenge, especially in the wind & rain that we had.
It's a classic moorland course cut into the pennine moors, up & down, left & right, but superb.
It's in great condition, greens were superb & the bunkers excellent.
You need to be fit to play it, but it's well worth it.

Played in a 4bbb open. The course was in good condition most notebaly the greens. The course enjoys an elevated posiition with some lovely views. It is however quite exposed and the wind certainly comes into play throughout. The clubhouse looked dated from outside but the bar was very nice, and the atmosphere relaxed. All in all an enjoyable days golfing and for £20 a pair represented excellent value.

Windy but enjoyable round

Course in excellent condition and the greens quick. I had played here once before but in awful conditions. This round was a little breezy but that added to the challenge. The course is well set out and challenging in places. Well worth a visit and great value for money.

Great challenge

A challenging course due to its undulating fairways, blind tee shots & on the day we played it wind!
Greens were nice, in fact the course overall was in excellent condition.
Definitely worth playing if in the area.

Nice course with great scenery

Have played Burnley GC a few times now but got to say never seen it better condition. The course generally looked very tidy and the greens were in great condition. For those who have not played it before, it is quite hilly with a few blind holes. Stunning views of East Lancashire all around. Good clubhouse and well stocked pro shop. Well worth a visit for sure.

Great views from up top

Great views from up top of the hills and you for Burnley supporters you can see the Turf. Quite a few blind drives so worth asking in pro shop for guideance. Course is coping with the rain at the moment, some wet patches but greens were good.No trolleys available to borrow so bring your own or carry

Clubhouse not open after. Greens quite bumpy but take into account start of season. I don't recommend if you are a beginner as it is not forgiving.

Played this course as our greens were being hollow tined. Always friendly welcome by pro shop and members. Course in reasonable condition, still wet in places from recent heavy rain. Greens true, not too quick. If not played before always worth a game.

Although we played on a very wild and windy day, and it was a difficult days golf, the course was in very good condition given the time of year (although greens were hard to read due to work done ready for winter on them). I'll certainly be back next summer to sample the course at its peak.

Also the food in the clubhouse was excellent and very reasonably priced.
