What the club says: The club was orginally mapped out in 1905 by George Lowe the professional at Lytham St. Annes. Iin 1908 the course was redesigned by Alec (Sandy) Herd, former British Open Champion at Hoylake in 1902.

The course was altered and increased to 18 holes between its inception in 1905 and 1929, as well as many other alterations. It was however in December 1929 that the course was visited by James Braid, 5 times British Open winner and renowned golf course designer. James Braid suggested at the time, three new holes, over thirty bunkers, several new tee beds and mounds. The local paper called it extravangant! The layout of the course still remains the same after all this time, which is a testament to James Braid.

As well as being a pleasant place to enjoy a round of golf, there are also superb views across the town and surrounding villages, below Pendle Hill. On a clear day you can see the "Three Peaks" - Ingleborough, Whernside and Pen-y-Ghent.

Great moorland track

Burnley is a great moorland course, seriously undulating, thick wiry rough & fantastic views.
Set at the foot of the Pennines there's hardly a flat lie in the place, the greens are fast & true & the fairways are superb.
It's not the longest in the world, but that doesn't matter with some of the strategic decisions that you have to make. Add to this the fact that's it's nearly always windy up there &'you have a true test of golf.
The welcome in the clubhouse s also great, plus the local members are always happy to see a visitor.

Lovely Round of Golf

Travelled from Liverpool prior to a wedding and played in the afternoon. Course was in tremendous condition and greens rolled true. Not a flat course but adds to the amazing views you can see from every tee.
Would highly recommend as a visitor and for people living nearby wanting a course to be a member of with pretty cheap fees.

Nice course worth playing

Always nice to play Burnley when it's decent weather, get great views of East Lancashire on a clear day like it was today. Course in great conditions, greens smooth and tricky (as usual). If not played there before, a few blind tee shots so beware, always tricky to score well here as it's a good test even on a nice day.

Great in the wet.

Played for the first time. Was a bargain at ?20. Recent wet weather didn't cause any issues, all greens in use, tee matts were in use and all quite new. Nice mix of holes, great views and overall a decent course.

Great Moorland Course

Burnley is always in great condition, a fantastic moorland course on the edge of the Pennines.
Some won't like the humps & hollows & that there are a few blind drives, but I think that adds to the fun of it.
Not only is the course in great condition, with superb lightning quick greens, the views from the course are breath taking.
Add to that the friendly staff & you have a great golfing experience

Belting course

First time playing Burnley with the Oak Tree Ince G.S. Everyone was friendly, the breakfast was top class the course was in fantastic condition, well defined fairways greens absolutely superb I have played over a hundred different courses and this is the only one that didn't have a single pitch mark on any of the greens, well done to the greenstaff and the members.
We all agreed that it will not be long before we return
Well done Burnley.

Tough challenge

Despite a par of 68, Burnley is a tough challenge, especially in the wind & rain that we had.
It's a classic moorland course cut into the pennine moors, up & down, left & right, but superb.
It's in great condition, greens were superb & the bunkers excellent.
You need to be fit to play it, but it's well worth it.

Played in a 4bbb open. The course was in good condition most notebaly the greens. The course enjoys an elevated posiition with some lovely views. It is however quite exposed and the wind certainly comes into play throughout. The clubhouse looked dated from outside but the bar was very nice, and the atmosphere relaxed. All in all an enjoyable days golfing and for £20 a pair represented excellent value.
