What the club says: As with all links golf the challenging factor is the wind and its unpredictability, which means that the course can play differently almost every day. The greens are renowned as true and quick and the course is guaranteed to be in good condition all year. Excellent drainage due to the sandy subsoil ensures that the course is rarely if ever closed. The course demands that you use almost every club in the bag and the experience is memorable and always a challenge. This is why Burnham and Berrow is chosen so frequently as hosts for many championship tournaments.

I played in 2022 and it was an incredible experience. The layout of the course was spectacular with stunning views and the greens were in great condition. The challenge was great and I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the links. The clubhouse had good food and the staff were very welcoming. I'm looking forward to playing the course again when they prepare it for The Open final qualifier. Highly recommended for anyone who loves links golf!

Lovely course, some interesting holes

Played recently and was very impressed with course condition. Greens ran very true. Not an easy course if you go off line but some good holes. Probably not quite worth the guest fee, but if you can play with a member then recommend.

Great links course

Played this into a strong wind which made it a real test of golf even for a 10 handicap. You need good course management to keep yourself out of trouble. If you stray off course the rough will punish and balls can be difficult to find. There are a number of blind shots, so taking a look online or walking the course definitely is a good use of time. Course was in immaculate conditions and the greens where fast but true. Expensive but worth a visit and will definitely be back.

brilliant links

we stayed in the dormy and played 2 rounds over a couple of autumnal days in October.

The course feels like 3 parts (which work well together!). The opening holes are stunning, with holes threading through towering dunes. from hole 6-11 it then becomes more open, taking you out to the far end of the property (with the par 3 9th being one of the standout holes on the course as you turn the corner). the inwards stretch is similar to the opening, with the holes being placed amongst dunes giving stunning views over the course.

I'd wanted to play Burnham for a number of years so came with high expectations, which were more than met. It's a tough track, and we experienced opposite wind directions across the 2 rounds, and both 9s play tough into the wind, especially if it's into you on the back 9. the greens were excellent, and many had some funky breaks and borrows which added to the challenge immensely.

As mentioned, it's a tough challenge, with a number of long par 3s & 4s, which can play longer if the wind is into you. However, even if you don't score well, i would expect you still to walk off with a smile on your face having experienced a course which easily justifies it's position within the top 50 of the UK.

Off the course, the clubhouse had a great atmosphere, with friendly staff and members a like. A Special shout out to the starter as well who provided an extremely warm welcome (and didn't laugh too much when i sliced my opening drive onto the 18th fairway!!)

the dormy option was also great to simplify the stay and play experience.

Nice course but it?s always windy!

Nice course, very tough, always windy, greens fast but fair, fairways were rough in places, need to keep as straight as possible or the real rough will claim a victim! If you are able to find your ball in the rough you may be lucky to get a hit on it, some of it is dense!! Good luck!! Oh and don't expect the bar to be cheap!!

High Ranking Deserved

Although I’ve played many courses, I’m not used to links golf but have enjoyed this new experience on a tour of the West Country.
You need to be on your game here as any mis-hit drives are likely to find places you wouldn’t want to go to, but most fairways are quite wide. I was somehow able to finish my round with the ball I started with!
The lightning fast, undulating greens could make anyone look daft, although some pins were in ‘friendly’ positions where my ball finished close.
Many picturesque bunkers - as long as you’re not in them - but the sand is perfect, so you have a chance.
Very friendly pro, starter, members and even a greenkeeper who watched my ball for me as I played over an enormous sand dune!
B & B deserves its high ranking and rave reviews.... it’s a very special place to play golf.

Tremendous course and a warm welcome

I play Burnham and Berrow every year in a society event. After a slightly down period, about 5 years ago, it is back in top form. The welcome in the new pro shop was pleasant, and the clubhouse is very unstuffy for a club of this status. The course was in terrific condition, and I don't think you will get better greens in England. The criticism of holes 6, 7 and 8 is not justified on any grounds other than appearance - they don't look 'linksy' but they are good, testing holes. 1,2,3,4,5 are right up there as a start to a round. They look more fearsome than they are, so you can get away to a good start.. The 17th and 18th are a really good finish, 17 is a brutal par 3. Just one of the best courses.

Wow! What a links

Golfshake Team ReviewSuper course and one to defo play. Surprisingly although we drove the 100+ miles from Redditch there are quite a few members there from the Midlands area - course guaranteed to be open and dry on its sandy base. (I can see the attraction compared to clay soil where we live.) Lucky to get a calm day.. I was really impressed by the views from some of the tees were really 'awesome' (i hate this overused word but it is definitely appropriate here) across the Bristol channel like on the 2nd and especially the 4th tee box and 15th ) Loved the shorter par 3's on 5 and 9 especially which were flanked by intimidating pot bunkers - true links style. Nice playing in between sand hills like on 1-3 rather like Silloth-on-Solway. The members were all very friendly on the first tee and in the clubhouse. Look forward to playing again ...£30 with a member is a bargain. Though £90 on your own is a bit steep I feel..... the Dormy house looks very nice so maybe worth an over-nighter as there is not much going on apart from holiday parks in the area it seems.

Fantastic links

Played this course on a Friday morning, the Pro shop reception was warm and welcoming, pointing out all relevant information. Made our way to the first tee and opened up with a tight drive surrounded by large dunes, this continued until the 6th which kind off flattened out, until we reentered the dunes around the 12th hole. I found the bunkering to be top notch, the general condition of the course was excellent, met a few green keepers on the way chatted away with a couple. The rough is penal, if it goes in it does not come back out, so I lost quite a few balls, did not spoil my day at all.

There is a lot of false fronts to greens so you have to be accurate with your yardage. the course winds it way past a old church, pillbox and from the ninth tee a wreak can be sighted. Lots to see.

I was taken with this lovely links and would recommend to anyone who has a love of links golf, it is very good and well worth the visit.
