What The Club Says

Established in 1914, Buckingham Golf Club is a traditional private members' club set in 130 acres of beautiful rolling Buckinghamshire countryside.

Our 18 hole, 6,162 yards, Par 71 Parkland Course offers a fair but challenging test to golfers of all abilities.

The course features two rivers - The Great Ouse and Dudley Brook - These rivers come into play on 9 holes of the 18 hole course. The majority of the holes are tree-lined and all but one of the greens are guarded by bunkers.

An abundance of wildlife (Kingfishers, MuntJack, Pheasants etc.) are seen frequently. The course has a large Practice Area with full-size green and bunker and also a Practice Putting Green.

The Practice Area and Practice Putting Green are only for use by members and Green Fee payers. These facilities are not open to the general public.

Well worth a visit

I played this course a couple of times in the 2000's, when I was not only younger, but a longer hitter. The course is not particularly long, but this time around I was playing from the back tees in a national KO, against one of their recent Past Captains. The man was a complete gent, and pointed me in the right direction on a few occasions. If you don't have someone who knows their way around the course, you can end up in a fair bit of trouble.

Turning to the course itself, there are a few short par 4's, but also some long ones which make it a challenge. The four par 3's are all quite long (shortest is 160). The 3 par 5's are not overly long so overall the course is an acceptable challenge in terms of length. There is a small stream which runs through a lot of the holes, and this is flanked by steep banks, so you need to be careful not to get the ball running downhill. This starts with the very first hole, which is also one of the shorter par 's and may well be driveable for the longer hitters.

The fairways were well maintained, as were the tees and greens, but the bunkers were very inconsistant. One greenside bunker in particular I went in had little sand in the bottom, so 3 attempts to play a proper shot all failed. As we were playing matchplay, I conceded the hole, but I wouldn't like to be playing strokeplay with that sort of problem! My opponent did warn me that some of the bunkers are in a poor state!

All in all I liked the course, and hope it won't be another 15 years before I get to play it again.

Nice course , very undulating and thought provoking, greens were pretty good nick. A touch wet in places which was not a surprise given the weather recently.

Whilst the Course is ok, the reception from Members was awful. Looked up and down from the moment I got there and can now understand why this club was is in the news a few years back. Even approached by one Member to ask who I was.

Not played Buckingham GC before and invited to play in the Seniors Open. The clubhouse looks to be fairly modern from the outside, but has a bit of character to the inside. Pro-shop is small, but has all you'd need. Practice facilities are OK. Fairly large putting green, 2 small driving nets, but didn't see a chipping area. The course itself is a challenge. And believe me it is. The teeboxes were in decent condition, if a little uneven ion some of them. Rolling fairways with plenty of slopes and contours that give you shots with the ball in various positions around your feet. Due to the weather they were still a bit dry, but a few days of rain had started to turn them green. The greens were well tended and were deceptively quick, with a lot of breaks and slopes. A good test. There are some good holes that make you think about shot selection. My favourite holes would be, the 4th a shortish par 3, played across the valley and stream, with 6 bunkers around the green, the short par-4, 5th hole, that could be reached by the big hitters, but a 3-wood to a bowl in the centre of the fairway, gives you a good chance to make par or even birdie. The par-4 9th a sweeping downhill, then uphill, slight right to left dogleg, with trees along both sides of the fairway. The shortish par-4, 13th, that has a ditch meandering its way along the fairway, the par-4 14th, that has a slight dogleg on the approach to the green, the long par-3 15th, a straight hole, but with plenty of trouble, left and right, with a river and trees and the par-4, 18th a sweeping downhill then uphill, across the valley and stream, to a green sat to the corner of the clubhouse. Hospitality of the members and staff were excellent with a special mention to Verene and Nicole in the main office, Kirsty, Ollie and Sarah in the bar and to Sharon, the Ladies captain and Stephen, the Seniors captain for making a visitor, feel as though I was a fully paid up member. Buckingham GC, is a good course that is well worth a visit. I will be returning.

Worth a visit

Played their winter series open and for the time of year the course played very well. There is a good mix of holes and some testing short par 4's. Think it would play much harder in the summer when the course is firm. Clubhouse very welcoming and good food and range and other practice facilities good.
