What the club says: Birchwood is an 18 hole championship course designed and built on 240 acres of rolling parkland. Built in the 1970's unlike other golf courses of an earlier design Birchwood offers a challenge to all levels of golfing capability.
The layout provides the player with a variety of shot making which will test the expertise of all fourteen clubs in the bag. Many holes have been designed with water features which bacame an integral part of play. Other holes are tree lined with features involving sand bunkers and grass bankings.

Fantastic course but very challenging
I play off of 19, right-hander with a natural fade and this course is the most difficult I've ever played (even more so than Royal Birkdale).I drive on average 260, but where my drive carries too Birchwood have ditches and bunkers throughout the course. If you try to go for it and clear these hazards and the fade kicks in, then the trees/motorway on the right-hand side take your ball. In hingsight, I should have layed up more and attempted bigger second shots, but thoroughly enjoyed the challenge - will be back!

Wonderful
Course in fantastic condition best I've played on in a while. Forgiving and not too long so can score well if you hit the shots

The bar was welcoming and friendly will play again.

Expected better....
Played Birchwood today on a deal. Overall I was a little disappointed. A decent layout, but the fairways were very poor, and were long enough to be light rough. The bunkers need sorting out, tee boxes need cutting. Green's good though. Friendly staff.

Not great
Greens really good but everything else poor. Fairways hadn't been cut. Long grass. Catching flyers from middle of fairway. £28 very steep!!!!!!!..............(Round played: Jun 2018 - Score: 77 Handicap: 8.9)

Fantastic
Met by Peter in the pro shop, he was excellent very helpful and a great advert for the club. Our first time there but will definitely be back lovely course(Round played: Jun 2018 - Score: 92 Handicap: 15.5)

Superb greens
Picturesque course, nice variety of holes. Greens top class. Highly recommend.

Rough ride
Booked this couple weeks back, looking forward to a dry afternoon at a local course (never played before) £17.50 pp. Big signs on way in £750 membership for the year so expected a really good knock. Green where decent but that’s about it, fairways the length of most decent clubs rough, and the rough barely playable for the average golfer, put it this way if it went slightly off target it was covered by grass. Areas around the green should be fairway length, they can obviously produce it around the greeen so why aren’t fairways cut the same? Baffling, frustrated from hole 1 onwards.

Great course - superb greens
Played Birchwood for the first time on 14/10/2017. Despite the horrible conditions generally it was a very enjoyable experience as the course was nearly empty meaning no wait times at all.I found it pretty challenging but very fair, however due to the weather our group would lose balls hit onto fairways. I can't remember a bad hole though and would love to play here again when it dries out a bit. I thought the 11th that a previous reviewer didn't like was a tremendous hole and really brought out my best golf to score par
The greens deserve a special mention, they were in impeccable condition for this time of year - it must have been 8 or 9 holes before I even saw as much as a stray leaf on one.
Very friendly pro that gave us some good advice and it's an all round nice set up with some decent looking practice facilities too - although we didn't use them ourselves
Overall I would definitely come back here, it's easy to get to with plenty of parking and is well worth the green fee

Great Place
Very friendly staff. Lovely scenic course although a bit boggy in places so balls plugged. Strange to play preferred lies in August. Some horrible holes...hated the 11th. And houses were close to the fairways at the turn. Very off putting. But a great day out and lovely place to sit for a beer outside afterwards. laying again Sat in a Society comp. Will play again there once a month and might even join. But winter might be really boggy. Practice facilities are fantastic. Book online for a tee time after 2 to get great rate.(Round played: Aug 2017 - Score: 84 Handicap: 9.5)

Really enjoyable challenge
A great course with every hole having something of interest. The greens are true and incredibly quick which wasn't something we were used to. The professional was very helpful too. Entry to the back car park was a little confusing but you will need a code for the automated barrier to gain access.Well worth a visit.

Well Maintained Challenging Course
Well put together course - challenging holes with well thought out hazards, especially for beginners like myself. Facilities and course itself well maintained. Friendly staff. Wasn't able to use the restaurant or bar so can't provide feedback on this aspect.(Round played: Jun 2017 - Score: 118 Handicap: )

Fantastic Course
Wish id have played here sooner, feel like I have missed out on a cracking course right on my doorstep!! very well maintained and well priced
(Round played: Jun 2017 - Score: 112 Handicap: 27.5)

It's a great layout with plenty of trees & water to catch you out. Unfortunately I got caught out too many times!
Great welcome in the club house, overall a good day's golf.
