For the cheap price ,, its not a bad course to be honest ,, its sloping fairways make it hard to keep your ball in play ,, a bit of a challenge and well worth the price ,

For a council run golf course its pretty decent ,, greens could do with looking after more ,, but thats councils run for you ,, they dont realise the money that could be made with a bit of care ,,

Can be quite a challange but worth it

This is actually an edit of a review I submitted earlier this year. As I previously mentioned the greens (which had suffered form a rather wet winter) have now much improved and are a lot more consistant (just wish my putting was!). Tee and pin positions are moved more regularly which always makes the same course feel different from round to round. The main reason for this amendment is my previous low score for the hospitality, this was only down to the clubhouse (19th hole) not being open after about five o'clock. This has now changed and stays open later which has been much appreciated as we don't have to move on for the essential post round refreshments, many thanks to the people involved.

Can be quite a challange but worth it

The course can and has suffered from the weather this year, but now the course team have got a grip of the greens which are now improving it can be quite rwewarding. People have been quite a bit sniffy as it's a municipal course but take it for granted at yout peril, a misplaced shot can be costly. I've played in all weathers and seasons and on the whole enjoyed it. Bad points, the bunkers aren't the best and the greens I hope with the recent work will improve but are what really let iy down. The nineteenth hole is rarely open on your return if you tee off after two o'clock.

Played here with a large group of friends. It was a beautiful course many years ago, it has now literally been run into the ground by the company that is running it. In short, all 18 tees need relaying and are not playable, greens are full of Fusarium.
It’s no better than your local pitch and putt in the park. The clubhouse when eventually opened managed to emulate the course condition with their food offerings. An unfortunate example of municipal golf at its worse. What a waste

This is a very demanding golf course. If you have any problems with walking then a buggy is a must.
A very hilly course but it's kept in great condition. Some challenging holes but also some enjoyable holes. This is not an expensive course. I enjoyed playing here and would play again.

Lovely course and hospitality, very wet though !

We had a society day in late September 2019 here and all 15 of us turned up in blinding rain with the course thankfully open. OUr bacons and drinks were lovely beforehand and the clubhouse serves the course well. The Pro Shop is well stocked with the latest gear and they really looked after us with the course being on 9 temps. Having played the 18 we had pie and peas which was absolutely fine, a few chips would have been better, but no complaints. The course is a great lay out but in rain it suffers really badly with holding water and I would not play it again in that weather. But, I will definitely be back on a dry day to replay some of the wonderful holes and layout.

Good course and getting better

I've played 'the royal and ancient' as it's called in these parts since the 80s. Gosh, it was horrid back then!
Now, almost unrecognisable as the same course. Yes, it's very short. Yes, it's got loads of crossovers and fairways very close together.
BUT - there's some fine (and quite hard) holes - the 7th, the 10th (my first EVER par!), too many par 3s, but the 4th and 11th are excellent holes.
And there's some lovely views - notably from the 2nd and 14th tees.
The 1st is a truly treacherous starting hole, take plenty of club and don't miss the fairway!

Nice course, shame about the committee

Unfortunately just as my group was about to tee off we were approached by a committee member, the captain, who informed us casual play was not allowed from the White tees.Had he bothered to enquire he would have found out that we are members and were playing in the monthly medal, certainly not the way to attract and retain members. Overall the course was in good condition and the greens were running great.
