Bakewell GC ????
Bakewell Golf Club benefits from being located close to the town centre, right in the heart of the Peak District. With such a picturesque setting, you would expect a charming and memorable round of golf. Sadly, the reality is quite different, and the course feels like a missed opportunity.Course Layout
The layout is extremely hilly — and not in a strategic, interesting way. Instead, it is relentlessly steep with almost no flat lies anywhere on the course. Rather than testing skill and shot-making, it often feels like a physical grind. While some players may enjoy the challenge it borders on exhausting, with little reward for the effort required.
Greens
The greens are, at best, average. They lack pace and consistency, often running slow or patchy. Approach shots are rarely rewarded, and putts don’t roll as they should. The overall impression is of surfaces that are maintained just enough to be playable but without the care needed to make them enjoyable.
Fairways and Rough
This is where the course falls down most noticeably. The fairways are far too long and unkempt, so even accurate tee shots can feel unrewarding. The rough is unmanaged and scruffy, making it unnecessarily frustrating rather than providing a fair challenge. These conditions don’t reflect natural ruggedness — they reflect neglect.
Overall Condition
Taken as a whole, the course feels under-maintained it feels unloved, and the lack of upkeep is obvious throughout.
Value for Money
This is perhaps the hardest point to justify. The fees charged are cheap but it’s reflected in the quality of the experience. Given the course’s condition, it does not offer good value for money, especially when compared to other courses in the area that are better maintained and more enjoyable to play.
Verdict
Bakewell Golf Club has a fantastic location and enormous potential. Sadly, it doesn’t come close to delivering a worthwhile round of golf. The hilly layout is relentless rather than strategic, the greens are forgettable, the fairways and rough are poorly managed, and the overall condition is disappointing it’s hard to recommend this course to visiting golfers or even local players.
Rating: 1 out of 5 – Scenic setting wasted on a neglected, frustrating, and poor-value course. Try Buxton High Peaks, or Cavendish GC far better.

Hidden gem
Absoloute gem of a course. Played with a friend last week. Stunning views. A really good test of golf with some long and short par 4\'s, as well as a couple of attractive and tricky par 3\'s. At 20 quid for 18 holes (9 holes different tees) you\'d struggle to find better value elsewhere. The bar wasn\'t open, so nothing in the way of \'hospitality\' per se. But the locals and members we chatted to on the course were very friendly. Highly recommended.Reviewer Rating

well worth a visit
Having read reviews that suggested that only goats with stamina would put in a good round here I was pleasantly surprised. Not as hilly as expected if you put the ball in right area. Only one or two meaningful climbs. Quite short, with some par 4s reachable in 2 for mid/high handicappers. The 7th (16th) a gem for me. Fairways and greens in good condition. Seemed to be no clubhouse to speak of, just sign in, and directions to 1st tee were a challenge to find. V quiet when I played so the 2 x 9 holes not an issue.Reviewer Rating

There are many interesting holes, with a permanent picturesque view over the village of Bakewell
Although there are 9 shared greens, the place was so quiet this was not a problem, but I can imagine on busy days this might slow play down a little.
Lots of tricky holes to challenge even the most accomplished golfer, but all enjoyed by our four all.
(h/caps from 5 to 22). Will definitely return here..
