What The Club Says
Baildon Golf Club was founded in 1896 and offers an excellent Par 70 moorland golf course, with magnificent views and superb facilities. The club is situated close to Bradford and is easily reached, yet enjoys a lovely country setting.
The course is unique to the area as a traditional heathland course with no fairways running side by side. The closely mown fairways are generous, with the rough made up of wild moor grass and heather, this combination makes the course a fair test for golfers of all abilities.

Great round
One of the more scenic courses in Yorkshire and a very unique test. Worth it for the par 2 second hole alone which no matter how many times I play it always seems to get the better of me. The wind is the biggest factor to contend with.Reviewer Rating

A round of two halves
I’ve visited Baildon on occasions for many years. So when I got a call from a pal asking if I wanted a round, I absolutely agreed. It’s a fun if not uninspiring at times loop, and with the weather being biblically bad, I knew Baildon would be open. They never seem to close it. In this case sadly for me that was its downfall.Firstly I must point out the weather had been incredibly wet. Even my home course, which sits even higher on the moors than Baildon was closed that day. So to get a round in at all was a bonus.
The greens were in great shape considering the weather. Ran true and relatively firm. They were a pleasant surprise.
Sadly that can’t be said for the rest of the course. It was incredibly wet. Half of the holes walking up the fairway, we were essentially ice skating on mud. It was actually quite dangerous at times, especially the changes in elevation on the course. We were early out, possibly the first out as we had no one in front. However, the course got busy, and I imagine the paths from green to tee and the fairways would get more and more muddy as the traffic on them increased.
We could lift clean and place, sometimes this involved moving 20-30 yards back or to the side to avoid standing water. So for us visitors, it didn’t affect us much. We played our 18, the greens were decent and we got off.
I feel for the paying members though. The club seems unable to close the course when necessary, and because of that the condition will likely be ruined for months into the new season.
The course layout is split in two for me. There’s probably half of the holes that are a fun and interesting design to play. The 2nd and 15th spring to mind. Some of the best holes in Yorkshire IMO. There is a lot of straight up and down holes however, that leave you uninspired however. Some re-shaping and new bunker placement would elevate these holes if the club has money to invest.
Until then, it’ll always be a place to go when your course is closed, or when you’re playing with a beginner just getting into the game.

Good course but is quite tight and lots of heather/rough grass if you're not reasonably accurate...Reviewer Rating
