What the club says: Atherstone Golf Club is a 6012 yards course, which is not long, but with several blind shots to the 18 holes which are all completely different to one another, the par of 72 and standard scratch of 70 makes for a very interesting round of golf. The original course was laid out in 1894 on what was described as some of the best natural golfing land in the region.

Enjoyable day with excellent breakfast and meal after the society day. As a novice player, the course was very challenging and so I would not recommend for beginners. Would visit again but need to have improved greatly so not so challenging.

Testing Course for a good price

A lovely testing course with some exciting holes. Good course for all handicaps. Might need a buggy if not good on feet

First time at Atherstone, very quirky hilly course with plenty of blind shots. Every hole provides a different challenge, greens in very good nick given the recent weather. Booked in via the reception to the bar as the club shop didn't appear to be open. Course was quiet the members we met both on and off the course were very friendly and informative. Overall an enjoyable round of golf and will go back in the spring with the benefit of course knowledge.

Very interesting test

This course was an excellent 9 hole course but extending it to 18 holes was a challenge. I think they have done a great job. All the holes are well thought out and fair

Unique, fantastic

Great course. Hilly, narrow, short, various lies. I can see how regularly playing this course would really improve all aspects of your game. No two holes the same - reminds me of Windermere GC, loved it!

A Great Challenge

A proper challenge this one, steep climbs on many holes, some blind shots, undulating fairways. Played in January off mats which was disappointing but other than that the course was in very good condition. Steward spent a good ten minutes talking us through each hole to make sure we knew what we were doing, and GPS is a must. Thoroughly enjoyed the round and would imagine it is very punishing in the summer

Great course

Whilst not the longest course Atherstone is very challenging. Lots of blind approaches and narrow target areas mean you have to really think your way round.
Course was in lovely condition and is highly recommended.

A tough but excellent test

A great old golf course, full of unusual holes. Rewards good play, kills bad play! Just going brown, and almost linksy when we played, but the greens were bright green and very slick. 4 Ryder Cup players have come from this course, which says it all. Today, the course won comfortably!

First 3 holes are mickey mouse, then you enter the old course which are very pleasant. You then move to 10 - 13 very bland and boring ! 14 is a fill in card wrecker !! And then you move to 15-17,18 again old course lovely fairways and layout. Greens good condition but far too slow even in the summer.

Lovely club and very friendly its just really outdated with no services ! But cheap

This is a great course but not one for the faint hearted. Probably the most testing course I've played outside Scotland. Only 5810 yards but feels like double that with all the hills. There is almost no part of this course that isn't on a slope. Difficult for the first time visitor to score well here as there are lots of blind shots. You can only see 5 pins from standing on tees and one par 5 you first see it at 40 yards from the green. There is almost no margin for error. Miss a fairway or green by 8 yards and you'll end up out of bounds, down a huge hill or off in a ditch, you need to be straight. If you do hit straight you still have the howling wind to deal with. There is one temporary green in place on the 90 degree dog leg 7th but the actual green has had turf relaid so that's understandable. Course in good condition and friendly members make this a must visit course. It will open your eyes to how different golf on a hillside can be to a normal flat parkland track.
