What the club says: The challenging Championship course was designed in 1932 and has the feel of a long established and challenging course. If you don’t feel quite up to the demands of the 9 hole course or the Championship course, why not try the 18 hole Falconwood course that will test your golfing skills.

Most Helpful Review

I played the Falconwood a couple of days ago. I had actually played here earlier in the summer and at that point it was in reasonable condition and is a simple, but enjoyable challenge. Not so this time. To call the greens dry would constitute gross understatement on my behalf. My suspicions were aroused on the first when I hit a towering sand iron into the green which then bounced 20 feet in the air. At first I assumed i had hit a sprinkler head or a stone, on reaching the green however, it became apparent that this has not been the case. I use the term 'green' loosely, 'light brown' would be a more appropriate definition. Every single green on the course is barren. It is no exaggeration to say that not a single living blade of grass exists beyond the fringe. Not only is each green dead, they are also cracked and have the appearance of the grand canyon in miniature. These cracks, similar to tectonic plates seem to have pressed against each other and have formed large ridges which make putting impossible. Even the greenkeepers at Augusta National would be horrified at the speed the neglect of the course has these greens running at. Anything over a 3 inch back-swing with the short stick and you will send your ball running back off the green. One benefit is that the soil is so parched of water it has had a shrinking effect around the hole itself, making the diameter a solid inch wider than usual.

It is truly impossible to state how appalling the Falconwood is. I am convinced that the greens have not been watered once all summer. Even though cheap bookings are available online they are not worth it. The Falconwood is more likely to send you into a state of deep self loathing and depression than provide anything approaching an enjoyable round of golf. - Aug 31 2016

Course in decent nick. Greens were better than expected barring a couple that were a little cracked due to the recent heat. Very nice pie in the clubhouse post round. Good value too.

Budget round
Public course, £10 after 3pm. Greens slightly worse for wear, tees a little bare and bunkers need raking but decent value for a twilight round. They kept bar open for us at 9pm..

Well established old course but bunker and some greens are not well maintained and course could do with rest benches at every third tee. Crown golf are just spending the bear minimum to run this course.

Good fun. Just there to help tune up your game. No sand traps so not be taken as a 9 hole too seriously.

good value
When it's a sunny, hot day in May; any course you play on is going to be enjoyable. But a full round played in under 4 hours on a Sunday for less than ?20 with greens running fast and the course looking lush cannot be scoffed at. Would happily play there again for that price even if the course is a little on the short side.. To be fair it was nice to be hitting driver, followed by a short iron on most holes for a change.

Nice course shame about the condition
Not massively the fault of the club, but a little warning would have been appreciated in that some of the greens were unplayable as completely waterlogged. The weather hasn't been the kindest so far this year but did make a significant difference.

Budget option for £10 on Good Friday

Tees rough and bunkers very poor with no rakes. But did have 18 flags unlike last time I played.

A very wet day. Course should have been closed. Greens were blighted and extremely wet & boggy. All greens had been aerated and no sand in them. Fairways not cut so could not see difference between fairway & rough.

falconwood feb 18
its short with the yellows at under 5300 so it is a confidence booster compared to average 6000 plus local tracks.more hilly than I recalled so some serious cardio at times.most bunkers awfull or were G.U.R and greens were not great but what would you expect for the price. I enjoyed it pace of play was good and shot 87 which is good for me.Poor signage means a first timer could get lost

Winter golf rules!!
This is where I started playing golf. I do like some of the holes. Not too tough, but still a nice test of your game. Played when it was completely frozen. First 13 greens were like concrete so please with the score. Nice clubhouse but changing rooms need to be seriously updated. Overall a good day and would recommend.

Friendly clubhouse, very welcoming. Not too busy so play very relaxed. Good value for money although course could do with some maintenance work, particularly bunkers (lots of stones).

Scenic Courses
This wasn't a great start. I'd bought a 7am tee time online, their website said the course was open from 7am, and when I got there I found out that they don't open until 7.30. The guy in the shop apologised, which was appreciated, but you kinda think that someone needs to be making sure the details don't get forgotten.

There are two 18 holes courses here, the Falconwood and the Championship, and neither are especially long (both are under 5300 yds from the yellows). There are a few climbs though, so consider a buggie if you aren't a fan of hills.

The Falconwood is the cheaper course, and it certainly feels like that when you play both on the same day. The fairways are wide, the greens are small, but the condition is far better than a lot of reviews I'd seen had suggested. The bunkers aren't great and some are GUR, but you have the option to just not go in them

The Championship course just feels a lot nicer. The fairways are still pretty generous, and the greens are both larger and in very good condition. The bunkers looked a lot better too, although I didn't get to experience any of them first hand (yay!).

Both courses are very scenic, and both have great layouts and some pretty holes. If I lived closer then I'd certainly be playing here more often.
