What The Club Says
Built in the late 1970's the Abbey course has now matured into a fine, championship standard parkland course measuring over 6,500 yards. Designed by Donald Steel, one of Britain's leading course architects the course has been extensively upgraded and lengthened in recent years.
The layout includes matured trees, lakes and on the whole the fairways are wide with the rough not too punishing, the picturesque 7th is a 192 yard drive from the medal tee with the green surrounded on three sides by the river arrow. The 13th is a challenging uphill par 4 drive between two mature oak trees at 250 yards with the green concealed out of sight at the top of the hill.

In poor condition
Signs up everywhere saying a £1 million investment has gone into the course but it’s really hard to see where. 3 new holes (I think) as they have sold a portion of the course to developers. Greens are also being attacked by something as they are cut up on some holes and they have placed somthing on the greens to scare them away. Some holes in excellent condition to be fair but overall course is in bad shape.Reviewer Rating

Get this course some mowers (and some trolleys)
Newly reconfigured course, decent layout requiring some strategy off the tee vs bomb a drive and go from there.Condition was below par. Greens had suffered severe damage (badgers or foxes maybe?) and even had GUR and a drop zone on one green which is new to me. The fairways were hardly cut, and if they were they were cut way too long, felt more like first cut than a fairway.
As for facilities the club doesn't own any trolleys. Our group was unable to hire a single one, they apparently have some on order but I thought this was exceptionally poor given it reopened the course months ago to have no trolleys available at a hotel course where people will be travelling in and not all will bring their own.
With mown fairways, no badgers and a few trolleys this could be a good course, but worth ringing ahead to check before you arrive to find yourself putting on greens that look like they've been on the wrong end of a WWII reenactment.

New course layout
With the loss of holes the course has been reconfigured. It's still an 18 hole layout but a little shorter. Dropping from par 72 to a par 70 with the loss of 2 par fives, but in saying that with the new course layout it is still a very good test of golf. The new greens are bedding in nicely and should be in great condition buy the end of the season.Reviewer Rating

Very dry
Course is suffering due to dry weather and a break down of irrigation system. Green Keeper trying hard to bring the greens back to there best with boswer watering.Reviewer Rating

Loved it!
Abbey Park Hotel.The Greens were not at its best. Apparently the sprinkler system was faulty for a few days.
The rest of the course was excellent. Picturesque, lovely Housing Estate and plenty of water.
Like most courses, accurate play means good scores can be achieved here.

Ignore The Bad Reviews
I'm not sure what people expect from a well priced course, I think middle aged men possibly have unrealistic expectations. Firstly, food and drinks were with us pre round within minutes, and tasty. The course is well set out, it's 18 holes I think most would really enjoy. I like a 90's course because they're maturing nicely and you don't get the boring up and down holes you tend to get on most older courses, and this has 18 good holes. We had millionaires golf on a Friday morning, so brilliant on that front. There's a range and good putting green to set you up nicely. The greens had obviously had a bit of blight or something, but so have a lot of courses and they were clearly being dealt with very well despite the terrible wet year we've had. Overall a great option at those prices, very happy to drive the almost 2 hours to play there again.Reviewer Rating
