What the club says: Built in the late 1970's the Abbey course has now matured into a fine, championship standard parkland course measuring over 6,500 yards. Designed by Donald Steel, one of Britain's leading course architects the course has been extensively upgraded and lengthened in recent years.
The layout includes matured trees, lakes and on the whole the fairways are wide with the rough not too punishing, the picturesque 7th is a 192 yard drive from the medal tee with the green surrounded on three sides by the river arrow. The 13th is a challenging uphill par 4 drive between two mature oak trees at 250 yards with the green concealed out of sight at the top of the hill.

Loved it!
Abbey Park Hotel. The Greens were not at its best. Apparently the sprinkler system was faulty for a few days.
The rest of the course was excellent. Picturesque, lovely Housing Estate and plenty of water.
Like most courses, accurate play means good scores can be achieved here.

Ignore The Bad Reviews
I'm not sure what people expect from a well priced course, I think middle aged men possibly have unrealistic expectations. Firstly, food and drinks were with us pre round within minutes, and tasty. The course is well set out, it's 18 holes I think most would really enjoy. I like a 90's course because they're maturing nicely and you don't get the boring up and down holes you tend to get on most older courses, and this has 18 good holes. We had millionaires golf on a Friday morning, so brilliant on that front. There's a range and good putting green to set you up nicely. The greens had obviously had a bit of blight or something, but so have a lot of courses and they were clearly being dealt with very well despite the terrible wet year we've had. Overall a great option at those prices, very happy to drive the almost 2 hours to play there again.Reviewer Rating

two thirds of a great course
As far as hotel courses go this one was pretty good. The downsides are that a few of the starting holes work around a housing estate and you have to walk through the housing estate twice during your round to get to the next hole. Tee boxes were a bit scruffy and all but one of the bridges over the many bits of water were in need of some TLC. On the positive side the greens were superb. Despite the huge amount of water they were smooth and true. Oh, the biggest downside was the range which was pretty grim!! But staff were lovely and very helpful. Enjoyed it, but wont rush back.Reviewer Rating

Tricky course
A course you need to work your way around. After a very deverstating winter the green staff have worked hard to bring it back to its former glory. It will be ready for the new season.Reviewer Rating

Disappointed expectations
Course did not meet expected standards. Greens in poor condition. Really slow play due to players drunk on the course, racing around on golf carts and players disregarding dress code rules playing with completely unbuttoned shirts.Reviewer Rating

Solid Course - Good Condition
Played a society event here, friendly staff, pace of play is good. Course it self was in good condition. Good quality fairways, rough was tough without being unplayable and the greens were consistent for the entire 18. Would def play here again.Reviewer Rating

It was ok
Fairways were OK, Greens were very inconsistent and require some remedial work. Bunkers also need a bit of work. The course is not a technical course and could do with some tweaks in order to make it more challenging. I fear that the course maybe suffering with a lack of investment. However the most important thing of any club is that the staff and members are very friendly and welcoming which was certainly the case at Abbey Park.Reviewer Rating

whole course looking good
The greens have seen a massive recovery from the extensive Greenkeeper work done in the winter. a couple look a bit brown but they run true enough! The rough between some of the holes is really up and looks great, Some will hate it bit it looks lovely "And if you are that far off line you deserve to lose your ball!" :-)
Really like how the greenkeepers have enhanced some of the tees with white roped off areas and extra flower boxes on 1, 2, 6, 8, 17. Really adds to the look of the course.
I play twice a week for the last 10 years. It is a great match for many clubs and arguably better value.
2 tier driving driving range is better than you will see at most clubs -so no excuse not to be warmed up for the 100 yard walk to 1st tee.
The pros Rob, Drew and Dean will make you very welcome - Go play it!

Worth a visit
The course was looking nice and tidy as it's been cut well. The greens were ok but the bunkers were dreadful with some with hardly any sand. We were informed prior that they were trialling some new sand in some of the bunkers and hopefully they improve these. The course has a mix of hole lengths and hazards to test your skills. Driver is not always best option off the tee. Will be returning again .Reviewer Rating
