Wrekin Golf Club invests in the future

By: Golf Shake | Thu 23 Apr 2015

(Friday 17th April) Wrekin Golf Club, on Golf Links Lane, Wellington is proud to have entered into partnership with John Deere and their support ground team, Charlies Groundcare, part of the Charlies Stores Ltd Group. The Club has invested in a new John Deere 8700a precision mower and also a John Deere 2635b tees mower.

Harry Jones, Head green keeper said “When it came to replacing our existing fairway mower, we looked at a range of different machines. Our fairway mower is used 3-4 times a week in the summer months in order to keep on top of our undulating fairways, so we had to choose a machine which would cope with a heavy workload.” He added “When testing different mowers the John Deere 8700A came through very strongly and without doubt gave us the best result, (the floating units getting a precise close cut in the hollows of the ridge), after we modified some specific parts  on  the mower (i.e. rollers and brushes) the finished effect was just what we required.”

“The John Deere 2653b tees mower was a much simpler choice, with flat tees and surrounds this machine offers great quality and cut, along with easy and affordable maintenance, once again backed up by Charlies Groundcare service.”

Also this week, Wrekin Golf Club has taken delivery of 4 new Club Car buggies supplied by Oakleys, to further extend the existing fleet.

Tim Stubbs, Club Captain said “We will continue to invest in the course and its membership” He added “This purchase is the first of several projects over the next 12 months”.

In addition the Club has recently strengthened its administration and finance team, taken on an apprentice within its Greenstaff team, and refurbished the old Pro Shop into a fully stocked Golf Reception suite to meet the needs of the modern golfer.

Membership is increasing with the subscription fees being frozen for the last two years and new members will be welcome at attractive pro rata rates.
