The Seniors Mendip Vase 2012

Hundreds Flock to Mendip!

Crowds gathered at Mendip last week and enjoyed the best of the Summer weather in The Seniors Mendip Vase and The Men’s Invitation Day. The course was presented in immaculate condition with the greens running fast and true for the 174 competitors in the Vase and again for the 156 gents playing in the Annual Invitation Day. Overall Winner for The Seniors Mendip Vase was Mendip Member Sandy Keen with 41 points. Division one winner was Mendip’s John Whyman with 38 points, Division two winner was M Gould from Mendip Spring with 37 points, Division three winner was W Henderson from Westbury with 36 points. The over 70 prize went to Mendip’s Roger Wickett on 36 points. Best Visitor not in the prizes was R Gilchrist from Henbury with 36 points and nearest the pins were won by J Nuttall, P Lewis, D Lines and M Snaith. Good scoring on Men’s Invitation Day saw the top five pairings within 4 shots of each other. The Father and Son Duo of Steve Stephenson and Adam Stephenson were crowned champs with an impressive nett score of 62. Ian Fairclough and partner E Jeans were 2 strokes behind on 64 taking second spot. Third place went to John Whyman and his partner A Frye with a nett score of 65. Fourth and fifth place both had a score of 66 but Colin Davies and his partner A Craig pipped Paul Merrett and K Gill on countback.

Mendip ladies completed their Club Championship on Tuesday after abandoning the second round on Sunday due to torrential rain. The replayed second round enjoyed better weather than forecast but the course still provided a challenge to the players. The winner of the Club Championship was Gill Brown gross 171, runner up Jinhee Page gross 187. The best nett was won by Jenny Merrett with 162 nett, runner up Linda Brobson 164 nett. The best Saturday score was Vi Hayes with nett 77, the best Tuesday score was Fran Davies with nett79.
