Located in the Paphos region of Cyprus, the spectacular Aphrodite Hills Golf Resort has become one of the most admired destinations in the game, bringing together a magical course within a breathtaking landscape. When you align that with a Mediterranean climate and the luxury of a five-star hotel, you have a recipe that could result in the holiday of a lifetime.

Golfshake Ambassador Andy Picken was recently fortunate to experience it all for himself, which he chronicled in this review, and we recommend that you read his insights to discover what it's really like to be there.

He wrote: "The location is jaw-dropping in its beauty as the golf course overlooks the azure, blue Mediterranean Sea. Situated between Paphos and Limassol, this is an extraordinary and award-winning integrated golf, leisure and real estate development of the highest standards."

But if you are yet to be fully convinced, we have brought together some of the biggest reasons why Aphrodite Hills - named after the goddess Aphrodite - qualifies as a must-visit for any discerning golfer.

Our travel partners, Golfbreaks, can offer you some exceptional deals and packages that will unlock the secrets of both this fabulous resort and the unforgettable setting of Cyprus itself.

The Incredible Accommodation at Aphrodite Hills

Luxurious and providing an all-inclusive service that will satisfy even the most prodigious of appetites, Aphrodite Hills overlooks the Mediterranean Sea on the southwest of the island and is positioned only 15 minutes from the city of Paphos and 55 minutes from Larnaca International Airport.

Once you get there, you will have the opportunity to stay within one of its 290 rooms that are perfect for either couples or families, all of which benefit from modern amenities that include walk-in showers, satellite TV, air conditioning, and private terraces, with guests being offered the choice of pool, golf or sea views, ensuring that everyone has the accommodation that suits their tastes.

Alternatively, should you be part of a group or desire a greater degree of privacy, then the Aphrodite Hills Rentals are a popular option, where you can choose from an array of villas and apartments that will afford an example of the lifestyle typically only enjoyed by the rich and famous.

Amazing Restaurants, Bars & Facilities

Whatever your culinary preferences, there really is something to connect with all palates at Aphrodite Hills. There is a vast collection of restaurants and bars that will occupy you at different times of the day, and exploring each of them could be the highlight of your holiday in Cyprus.

Have afternoon tea at the Amelia Lounge or dive right into the burgers available at the cosy Anoi Pub & Bar. El Sabor is the place for Mexican cuisine - a real favourite among guests - while the traditional Greek Cypriot Tavern presents a more local and authentic menu.

Should Italian be your thing, then Zimi Trattoria is the reservation you need, while the Aphrodite Hills Golf Clubhouse Restaurant has expanded from its international offering to also introduce you to sushi dishes from Japan.

You can't beat Indian cuisine, right? Should you be nodding in agreement with that statement, then you need to stop by the aptly named Gate to India, with lovers of East Asian food also certain to love the Jasmine Restaurant.

Bars to stop by include the Pool Bar with its spirits and wines, while the exotic cocktails of the Splash Pool Bar are for those of a more adventurous persuasion - and if you want to enjoy yourself right into the evening, then we recommend the Show Lounge Bar.

Indeed, you might be thinking that all of this talk is calorie-inducing, so you may find some respite in the many leisure facilities at Aphrodite Hills that include its Spa & Wellness centre, while more active pursuits can be enjoyed through its tennis, football, cycling, basketball and hiking options.

Away from the golf course, Aphrodite Hills has so much to offer, but the quality of golf ain't bad either.

PGA National Cyprus Course at Aphrodite Hills

Aphrodite Hills Golf

Boasting PGA National status, Aphrodite Hills is a rather special layout, having been designed by the respected architect Cabell Robinson and first opened back in 2002.

It spans almost 7,000 yards from the back tees, but there is a suitable set of tees for all golfers, who will simply relish both the challenge of this design and also the stunning topography of the land.

The holes, which are lined by olive and carob trees, are built across two levels that are separated by a dramatic ravine, with those higher peaks opening up intoxicating views across the Mediterranean Sea.

Golfshake's Andy Picken, after playing here, said: "Playing Aphrodite Hills was a total delight that will live long in my memory."

Access to Other Spectacular Golf Courses

While undeniably a highlight, the course at Aphrodite Hills isn't the only track that is waiting for you to step onto the tee. Nearby, the Elea Golf Club, also played by Andy, was born from the rich imagination of Sir Nick Faldo and is an intelligently bunkered and strategic examination to excite any keen golfer.

Even closer to the Aphrodite Hills Resort, Secret Valley is a place with an intriguing and mysterious name, but the secret is that it's a quite brilliant golf course that has been captivating visitors since the 1990s.

Likewise, on the edge of the city of Paphos, Minthis Golf Course is a fine location too, making the most of the rolling landscape, featuring several wonderfully designed holes and magical vistas to match.

Golf in Cyprus - and especially in this corner of the island - truly is hard to beat.

Experience The Magnificence of Cyprus

Cyprus has a unique and fascinating history, with this island having first been settled more than 13,000 years ago. Since then, the empires of Rome, Turkey and Britain have left their mark, with driving on the left of the road and widespread English speaking being a legacy of that most recent relationship.

Much of that story can be told within the remarkable city of Paphos. As Golfshake's Andy Picken explains: "Originally the capital of the island, this city has a wonderful atmosphere combining the new with the very old and well preserved. We were lucky to be provided with excellent tour guides, enabling us to widen our analysis to include many of the cultural experiences Paphos sits within a UNESCO World Heritage Site and there are a host of fascinating experiences available."

These include exploring the House of Dionysus and the Tombs of the Kings, while Aphrodite’s Rock itself, where the goddess was said to have emerged, is another must-visit item for your non-golfing itinerary.

Renowned as the European City of Culture in 2017, Paphos is a marvellous place to explore, and we suggest that you make the time for that, should a memorable holiday with Aphrodite Hills at the heart of things be on your mind.

This is one special resort in a truly magnificent location.
