Great Value European Golf Breaks in 2023

By: Liam Moore | Wed 10 May 2023

Seldom does anything conquer the glorious feeling of roaming in the sunshine as you chase your ball around a golf course for 18 holes. Whilst the UK cannot guarantee relentless sunshine, there are a selection of European countries that proudly can.

We have selected three great value for money golf breaks that can be experienced in the continent of Europe. Each resort is located closely to fantastic golf facilities, meaning they can act as a perfect base if you’re looking to play a variety of courses.

The Residences Islantilla Apartments - Spain

Islantilla

This luxurious hotel in Spain can offer travelling golfers contemporary rooms with enticing views at all corners of the premises. There is a collection of fantastic golf courses around the venue and the beach is only 2km away from the hotel. If you’re looking to stay in Huelva, then The Residences Islantilla Apartments offers great value for a golf holiday.

There are a variety of guest bedrooms available, with amenities such as air conditioning, satellite TV, safe, mini bar and coffee machine. With two restaurants and plenty of bars located on site, there is sufficient choice if staying on the resort for food and drink.

La Monacilla Golf Club is situated closely to the hotel and Jose Maria Olazabal - two-time Masters winner - is responsible for the alluring design. Alongside the excellent golf course are fantastic practice facilities, in addition to a stylish clubhouse where golfers can unwind post-round and soak in the stunning surroundings.

Islantilla Golf Course is another option for golfers, with the 27-hole parkland layout being designed by Enrique Canales and Luis Recasens. The three loops of nine are labelled Yellow, Green and Blue, and they can be played in any order - which results in three unique experiences for visitors.

Prado Do Golf - Portugal

Prado Do Golf

Prado Do Golf is a peaceful sanctuary that is complemented through the wide range of golfing facilities located in the stunning Vilamoura area. The centre of Vilamoura is located closely to the resort; a day trip exploring the local area will be ideal with Prado Do Golf as a base.

There are a range of one and two-bedroom suites available to visitors, with a beautiful garden surrounding the rooms. Every accommodation option comes equipped with air conditioning, kitchenettes, an open plan lounge and a private balcony or terrace to unwind on.

A real benefit of staying at Prado Do Golf is the volume of golf courses located closely to the resort. Dom Pedro Pinhal is one of the older courses in the Vilamoura complex, having been revamped by Robert Trent Jones in the mid-1980s. Finding fairways is a premium at this Portuguese course, as a collection of Umbrella and Atlantic Pine Trees act as a defence off the tee on every driving hole.

Dom Pedro Old Course is perhaps the most renowned offering in the Vilamoura area. It provides a fantastic test for all levels of golfer, and it is deemed as a must-play if you travel to this part of Portugal. To score efficiently around this historical layout will determine on keeping your ball in play, so length isn’t necessarily a trait that you’ll need in abundance.

Vila Sol Golf is also accessible, although it is slightly further away than those previously listed. The club can offer three loops of nine, with The Prime being the most difficult of the three. The Challenge is dominated by hilly greens, whilst The Prestige is shorter in length but far narrower, meaning accuracy will reign over power for the day.

Aa Saint Omer Hotel du Golf - France

Saint Omer

The hotel is located alongside the Aa Saint-Omer Golf Course, which makes this an ideal base for those looking to cram in as much golf as possible. There are surreal vistas of the golf course and surrounding valley from the hotel which will undoubtedly leave any visitor in awe.

A friendly troop of staff await arrival from golfers and the English-speaking team are ready to cater to any requests. The guest rooms are styled in a contemporary manner, all splashed in a warm and cosy atmosphere. There is a selection of 54 rooms available and they range from classic to deluxe.

Golfers will be able to sample the exquisite French cuisine from the hotel, with the Lodge restaurant providing a relaxing and quiet eating experience. The Ristandel is located in the clubhouse and provides scenic views of the golf course and it is a popular spot at lunch with golfers finishing their morning rounds.

The golf course is an annual host to the Challenge Tour, which should highlight its qualities. There are 27 holes situated on the complex, all of which boast a tremendous championship layout; ardent golfers looking for a stern test of golf will find it here. The stunning surrounding of the Regional Natural Park provides golfers with sensational views.

Whether you opt for a trip to Spain, Portugal or France, you can be assured of the quality you will be experiencing. The area of Vilamoura is brimmed with fantastic golfing facilities, but the same can be said for both Spain and France. Wherever you decide upon, we hope you have a fantastic time!
