PGA Catalunya Resort wins Spain’s Best Golf Course 2014 at World Golf Awards

By: Golf Shake | Mon 17 Nov 2014

PGA Catalunya Resort, near Barcelona, has added to its impressive tally of global golf accolades by winning the Spain’s Best Golf Course category in the inaugural World Golf Awards.

The win, announced at a ceremony staged at Portugal’s Quinta do Lago on Saturday, November 15, 2014, is PGA Catalunya Resort’s 21st significant accolade since opening in 1999 and follows closely on the heels of being announced as the International Association of Golf Tour Operators’ 2015 Golf Resort of the Year for Europe at the International Golf Travel Market.

The Costa Brava-based European Tour Destination, which staged the Open De España for the third time in 2014, was entered into the World Golf Awards nominations courtesy of its high ranking in Golf World magazine’s influential World and International Europe Top 100 Golf Courses listings.

Chris Frost, Managing Director, World Golf Awards, said: “What separates these awards from the many other distinctions PGA Catalunya Resort has been honoured with, is that in addition to being voted for by golf industry professionals, members of the public have their say too.

“To have achieved as much as PGA Catalunya Resort has in just 15 years is testament to the determination of the team working there to realising their high aspirations for the venue. I hope to see them, and all of our winners, nominated again next year.”

Julio Delgado, CEO of PGA Catalunya Resort, said: “We are committed to delivering a world class experience for everyone who visits and it is rewarding to be recognised by the voting public, to whom we are very thankful.

“Winning the World Golf Award further strengthens our position as a leading European golf destination for visitors from across the globe and we are firmly resolved to continuing to enhance what we offer in order to maintain that status.”
