By: Golf Shake | Wed 03 Jul 2013

Faldo Grand Final at The GreenbrierThe Greenbrier, the classic American resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV, has announced that they will host young golfers from around the world at the Faldo Series Grand Final in October 2013.

The news was presented today during a press conference at The Greenbrier Classic by Jim Justice, owner of The Greenbrier and tournament chairman and six-time major champion, Sir Nick Faldo, who founded the Series in 1996 to provide opportunity through golf and develop tomorrow's champions.

"I want to thank Jim Justice and The Greenbrier for taking a leadership position in an effort that is supported by The European Tour, the R&A, the Asia Tour, the Asia Pacific Golf Federation, ISPS Handa and most recently, The PGA TOUR, to grow golf globally through this Series," said Faldo. "Today marks a truly significant day in our history as The Greenbrier joins Mission Hills in China as annual Grand Final host venues for our players."

"I’m also sincerely grateful to Commissioner Tim Finchem and the PGA TOUR for continuing to support and develop the best efforts to grow the game of golf. Their contribution to bringing the world's young players to the U.S. highlights the TOUR's commitment to introducing golf to young people everywhere and to developing a truly global sport as we approach the Olympic games and beyond."

The world-renowned Series hosts more than 7,000 young golfers, age 12 to 21, at 40 events in 31 countries in Europe, Asia, South America and as of today, the United States.

"The Faldo Series is an incredibly impressive effort," said Justice. "In giving back to golf through the Series, Nick has seen two players rise to World No. 1 in Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng. The Greenbrier looks forward to providing a setting for history as tomorrow's champions include a championship visit to The Old White TPC Course in their journey with golf."

In addition to past winners McIlroy and Tseng, the Faldo Series is proud to include Guan Tianlang, who at 14-years old became the youngest player to make a cut in major championship history when he finished 58th at The Masters Tournament. American players will be eligible for the Grand Final in 2014.

Also, in September 2014, Faldo will begin accepting students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America.  The first-ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona marks another significant step in the program's history.

In related news, The Greenbrier announced today the creation of the Faldo Golf Center, featuring instruction based on Faldo’s award winning “A Swing for Life” teaching theories. The only one of its kind in the U.S., the Faldo Golf Center will offer Faldo equipment (irons, wedges and putters) and Faldo by Edel fitting systems in addition to the established brands of Callaway, Titleist, Taylor Made and NIKE.
