Faldo Series Returning to Support Golf in Netherlands

By: Golf Shake | Fri 21 Jun 2013

faldoThe fourth Faldo Series Netherlands Championship will be held at Bleijenbeek Golf Club in Limburg on July 24-26, organisers have announced.  The country’s top young golfers will again take part in the fourth edition of the event.

“The number of young Dutch golfers benefiting from the Faldo Series has grown considerably over the last three years,” said Sir Nick Faldo. “I thank Support2Sports for their hard work and efforts in growing the event and we welcome Bleijenbeek as our new venue.”

“We are excited to bring the Faldo Series to Bleijenbeek in the southeast of The Netherlands,” added Tim Gorreê, Chairman of the Board at Stichting Support2Sports.  “Sir Nick’s coach Keith Wood will stage clinics for competitors and local schoolchildren alike on the club’s excellent practice facilities, allowing us to be more than just a youth golf tournament, an objective we share with the Faldo Series.”

With World Amateur Golf Ranking points on offer, more than 130 golfers aged 12 to 21 will compete over three rounds in the fourth Faldo Series Netherlands Championship at Bleijenbeek.  Five age-group winners – three boys and two girls – will qualify for the seventeenth Grand Final, to be hosted by the six-time Major winner.

Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and the European Tour, the 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia and Greece.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

In September 2014, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America.  The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona is also home to the Faldo Series USA and marks the next significant step in the programme’s history.

Golfers born in 1992 or later wishing to enter the Faldo Series Netherlands Championship at Bleijenbeek Golf Club on July 24-26 should visit www.faldoseries-netherlands.nl
