Faldo Series Returning to Support Golf in Chile

By: Golf Shake | Wed 01 May 2013

faldoThe second Faldo Series Chile Championship will be held at Club de Golf La Dehesa in Santiago on May 17-18, organisers have announced.  The country’s top young golfers took part in last year’s inaugural event and an even bigger field is predicted for 2013 at the new venue.

“More than 60 competitors took part in our first ever Chile Championship in 2012,” said Sir Nick Faldo. “With strong support from the Chilean Golf Federation, even more young golfers will have the opportunity to gain valuable tournament experience in 2013 and potentially earn a spot in our South America Championship in Brazil.”

“At a time when Chilean professional golf is on the up, the Faldo Series will give young competitive golfers the chance to develop and get closer to making that transition to the top level,” said Edgardo Bello Lutter, General Manager and former national coach of the Chilean Golf Federation, who will deliver seminars throughout the week with one of Chile’s top teaching professionals, Hugo Contreras.

Golfers aged 12 to 21 will line up in the second Chile Championship, to be played over two rounds at Club de Golf La Dehesa.  The field will be divided into five age-groups – three for boys and two for girls – with the leading overall boy and girl qualifying for the Faldo Series South America Championship in July.

Supported by The R&A, ISPS Handa and the European Tour, the 2013 Faldo Series Europe schedule features a record 20 tournaments in 14 countries including six in England plus others in Ireland, Abu Dhabi, Chile, the Czech Republic, Scotland, Austria, Wales, Brazil, Italy, The Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia and Greece.

Established in 1996, 40 Faldo Series tournaments now take place in 30 countries worldwide with more than 7,000 golfers participating each year.  Past winners include Major Champions Rory McIlroy and Yani Tseng.

In September 2013, Faldo will begin taking students at a full-time residential academy for education and golf development in America.  The first ever Faldo Series Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona is also home to the Faldo Series USA and marks the next significant step in the programme’s history.

Golfers born in 1992 or later wishing to enter the Faldo Series Chile Championship at Club de Golf La Dehesa on May 17-18 should email [email protected] or visit www.chilegolf.cl before entries close on May 14.
