4895-fatherJames and Graham Ruth have made history and become the first ever undisputed winners of the European Father and Son Golf Championship.

Fathers and sons came from all over Europe including the current US Father and Son Champions to compete in this year Grand Final held at the excellent Greg Norman designed Lumine Golf  Resort in the Costa Dorada Spain. The 'Ruths' qualified into the event by winning the British Title this summer at Belton Woods. This dynamic father and son duo were always strong favourites to take the title. James is a former European Tour Player and dad Graham a one handicap and former three time Devon county champion.

The event is held over three days as a 54 hole two ball better ball stapleford with a scratch and handicap title. The 'Ruths' made event history by being the first team to win both titles to become 'undisputed' champions. The 'Ruths' shot 123 points (-15) in the Scratch to win the title by 7 clear points over golf professional Stuart Syme and scratch golfer son Connor from Scotland. In the Handicap they shot 122 points (-14) to win beat golf professional dad David Mills and son George from Sussex by four points. The 'Mills' managed to reduce the lead to just two points after 17, in front of the SkySports cameras, both putting for birdies on the 18th  David and George three putted to drop a point and effectively end their challenge. Standing on the 18th tee the 'Ruths' decided to finish in style by attempting to drive the short left to right dogleg par four. Graham found the trees but James showed his class and smashed a 300 yard drive over the corner pin high just right of the green. With a nervy testing chip out of wet rough James coolly chipped up to three feet to an appreciative clapping crowd above on the overlooking veranda. His birdie tap in was never in doubt and dad Graham walked across the green to hug his son as the new history breaking European Champions.

The final days highlights is being aired on SkySports 4HD at 9pm Tuesday 27th November.
