London 2012 Show Jumper chooses Algarve for post-Olympic relaxtion

By: | Tue 28 Aug 2012

British show-jumping gold medallist, Peter Charles barely let his feet touch the ground before escaping to the magnificent Amendoeira Golf Resort in Portugal, for a post-Olympic relaxation holiday with his family.

Following a ‘jump off’ which lead to Team Jumping gold in the equestrian event, keen golfer Peter flew down to the Portuguese resort to unwind, recuperate and enjoy golf on the championship courses.  The resort boasts two championship golf courses:  the Oceânico Faldo Course and the Oceânico O’Connor Jnr. course designed by golfing legends Sir Nick Faldo and Christy O’Connor Jnr, along with a floodlit 9-hole par 3 Academy course, and the Amendoeira Golf Academy and Fitting Suite.

Peter said: “In my opinion, the London 2012 Olympics was the greatest show on earth and a credit to Britain.  Now, it is great to get away and play some golf, especially since I rarely have time back home.  In fact I rely on the golf simulator in the house to keep up my swing! The courses here are a solid test of golf and I think the Faldo Course is one of the best in the world.  You’ve really got to be on your game, especially off the back tees.”

Peter brought the whole family with him to the resort.  “We have been to Amendoeira Golf Resort many times.  The peacefulness is ideal for us and there are lots of options for our three children with the par three course, tennis courts and pool.”

One of Europe’s finest golfing destinations, Amendoeira Golf Resort is situated in the beautiful central Algarve countryside, 10 minutes from the town of Silves and 10 minutes from Armação de Pêra beach.  The golf courses opened in October 2008 when Oceânico inaugurated the Oceânico Faldo Course and Oceânico O´Connor Jnr. course, along with the floodlit 9-hole, par 3 course, Oceânico Academy and the Amendoeira Golf Academy and Fitting Suite.

Additional to the two 18 hole golf courses, the resort boasts state of the art practice facilities at the Amendoeira Golf Academy & Fitting Suite, which offers a wide variety of training programmes for juniors, beginners and advance golfers, plus a driving range, putting green and long and short game practice areas.  Amendoeira also offers a wealth of sporting facilities at the Amendoeira Sports Club: two five-a-side Astroturf football pitches, six tennis courts, beach volleyball/football, a gymnasium, shop and bar.
