Is This The Most Dramatic Finish in Golf
The final three holes at TPC Sawgrass have witnessed more than their fair share of drama - and are likely to do so again.
This is where The Players Championship can be won and lost.
16th, 523 Yards, Par 5
On the face of it, this should be a gimme birdie but the reality is somewhat different. There is water all the way down the right-hand side. Find the fairway and you have to avoid a tree and bunker on the left. Find the bunker with the flag on the bottom tier and you have a terrifying shot - hit it a fraction too hard and more water awaits. But a high-flying second shot can take the slope and finish stone dead, setting up an eagle.
17th, 137 Yards, Par 3
Perhaps the most famous par three in golf. It is played to an island green that is almost entirely surrounded by water. At just 137 yards it should be pretty straightforward but a swirling breeze plays with golfers minds and an astonishing number of tee shots find the water. Even if you hit the green, if you end up in the wrong place there are plenty of opportunities to take three putts.
18th, 462 Yards, Par 4

A terrifying finishing hole with water in play for both the drive and the approach and trees to the right. And, of course, the perfect line from the tee is to the left of the fairway. Find the short and prepared and turn over your second shot even a fraction and a watery grave awaits. You would not want to stand on the tee knowing you need a par to win.
