Matteo Mannasero Wins Rookie of the Year award
Young Italian sensation Matteo Mannasero has been named the European Tour Rookie of the year.
The 17-year-old picked up the Sir Henry Cotton award after a brilliant first year which included his first win on tour in October where he became the youngest winner ever in Europe.
It was only his 11th professional start and even more incredible after joining the tour half-way through the season he raced to 31st in the 'Race to Dubai'.
Manassero’s stellar amateur career included victory in the 2009 British Amateur, the Silver Medal for low amateur in the Open Championship at Turnberry after finishing in a tie for 13th place, and a record-breaking performance in the 2010 Masters, where he became the youngest-ever player to make the 36-hole cut. Validating his decision to turn professional in May, the teenage sensation has had three top-3 finishes in 2010, including a runner-up finish at the UBS Hong Kong Open two weeks ago; his performances have enabled him to amass €890,402 in just 15 starts on the European Tour.
Elsewhere in the awards Race to Dubai winner Martin Kaymer unsurprisingly had the lowest stroke average, Ian Poulter had the most greens in regulation, Peter O'Malley was top of driving accuracy, Nicolas Colsaerts won driving distance, Sweden's Fredrik Anderson Hed won lowest average putts and Luke Donald scoop four awards which included, sand saves, most scrambles, putts per greens in regulation and average one putts per round.
Pete Cowan won coach of the year after Lee Westwood got to world number one, and Graeme McDowell and Louis Oosthuizen both won majors.
