Do You Fancy Owning Your Own Golf Course

By: | Fri 02 Feb 2024

For any golfer, somewhere near the top of their lifetime dream scenario would be owning a course. That fantasy could even become a reality for someone out there - as one acclaimed Scottish venue is currently for sale.

The Strathmore Golf Centre, located on the outskirts of Alyth near Blairgowrie in Perthshire, is now available for purchase for £1.5m.

For that price tag, the new owners would take over an 18-hole course (which is Highly Recommended on Golfshake), alongside a nine-hole layout, a restaurant and driving range, all positioned within a 150-acre site that has the potential to be further developed with lodges and a hotel among amenities that had previously received planning permission.

Quoted in The Courier, David Norman, director of operations and part of one of two families who currently own the facility, said: "We have another very busy year in prospect here at Strathmore Golf Centre."

"Any prospective buyer coming to view the club - and we’re pretty sure they’ll be a lover of the game - will see everything fully operational and in full swing - pardon the pun.

"We have been operating this business for 17 years, are well established and enjoy an enviable reputation, consistently achieving a level of excellence that keeps members, visitors, PGA professionals and our entire customer base very happy.

"We are very fortunate to be situated in prime Perthshire countryside, close to many amenities and local visitor attractions.

"Our spectacular setting is enjoyed by many visitors from all over the UK and beyond, even if they don’t play golf.

"Perthshire offers many activities for visitors to enjoy and there is a high demand for accommodation in our area for both golfers and general visitors alike."

Eastbourne Downs

However, should you prefer something a little farther south, then you might be intrigued to discover that Eastbourne Downs Golf Course (also Highly Recommended on Golfshake!) is also on the market for a custodian. EiA Real Estate Advisory (EiA) has been instructed by Eastbourne Borough Council to find a tenant for the venue in East Sussex.

As reported in The Golf Business, the property comprises an 18-hole golf course with a clubhouse and parking for close to 100 cars. Owned and currently operated by the council, the local authority is now seeking fresh operators to potentially take the place to the next level.

Already popular due to its chalky, fast-drying soil, ensuring year-round playability, Eastbourne Downs has a passionate membership and is also a favourite of keen pay-and-play golfers.

Perhaps it's time for you to make a dream come true. Why not put together a consortium and see if you could take over either Strathmore or Eastbourne Downs!
