Golfers' New Year Resolutions
AS WE head into a new year most of us will sit down and make some resolutions. Many of us will adhere to those resolutions, while others will have given up on them within days.
Golfers are no different to the rest of us. They also make resolutions. Here we take a (tongue in cheek) look at the resolutions that some of the world’s leading golfers may choose to make for the year ahead...
Tyrrell Hatton
Time to grow up, stop throwing tantrums and blaming everybody but yourself for poor shots.
Rory McIlroy
Stop telling us you have sorted yourself out and instead go out there and prove it by winning more majors.
Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka
Shake hands in public, put your differences behind you and just focus on what you do best - playing golf and winning tournaments. Your feud has become tiresome and looks increasingly like it is being staged for the benefit of the media. We have all had enough.
Jordan Spieth
Win the US PGA Championship to complete the career grand slam and prove to us all that you are really back.
Xander Schauffele
It is time to step up and win a major - you have the game.
Cameron Smith
Sorry Cam, but that mullet simply HAS to go. And the sooner the better please.
Henrik Stenson
Win a golf tournament, any golf tournament.
Hideki Matsuyama
Learn to make your victory speeches in English. We all know that you understand the language, and you do yourself few favours by constantly addressing the media through an interpreter.
Patrick Cantlay
Long touted as the next big thing, it is time for Cantlay to prove it - and the only place to do that is in the majors.
Tommy Fleetwood
Get your hair cut! Let’s face it, you have tried everything else to get back in the winner’s circle.
Justin Rose
Too talented to continue his slide down the world rankings. Stop tinkering with a swing that has brought you so much success.
Matt Fitzpatrick
Resolve to smile please! There are times when the man from Sheffield looks like he is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders. You are playing the game you love and earn huge sums of money.
Tiger Woods
Employ a chauffeur, get back to full fitness and tee it up on the PGA Tour one more time.
Louis Oosthuizen
Nobody went closer more often in 2021 without managing to get the job done. Come on Louis, you are one of the most naturally gifted golfers on Planet Earth. Get your head down and win a golf tournament.
Scottie Scheffler
Get the demons out of your head and find a way to win that maiden tournament. You have all the shots in the book but need to get your focus straight.
Sam Burns
Don’t rest on your laurels Sam. Many onlookers believe that you could well be the real deal. Yes, you have won a couple of tournament and have a few million in the bank. Resolve not to settle for that.
George Coetzee
The South African has a God-given talent. Sadly, he is one of the worst chippers of a golf ball in professional golf. Resolve to go and get speak to somebody who can help you fulfil your huge potential.
Wilco Nienebar
Learn when to leave the driver in the bag. Nienebar hits the ball even further than Bryson DeChambeau but, like the American, misses far too many fairways. He hits his three wood over 300 yards.
Rickie Fowler
Forget all about the swing changes. They haven’t done you much good, have they? Resolve to go back to trusting the technique that has brought you so much success. Oh, and shave off that dreadful moustache.
Bernhard Langer
Maybe the time has come for the German to resolve to share with the rest of us the secret of eternal youth - 64 years of age and still winning tournaments, picking up the Charles Schwab Cup for the sixth time. He must be drinking from the fountain of youth. Where is it please?
